I'd rather see a red car with a few flaws than a perfectly primered vehicle.

You know I noticed that too. But like they say in the Navy... Don't ask. Don't tell.

J/k Kyle J/k. I am assuming he was talking to his gf's dad or brother.

BTW I have seen some great (SATIN) Black cars.

It wouldn't be primer. The color I'm looking at is either the John Deere Flat Black, or the color of the Formula that Ben posted, is called "Hot Rod Black," it's sold at the same paint store we bought the paint for Ben's Firebird.

Also, the fact that my car has been keyed, egged, bumped in parking lots by various objects, and it's got a pair of cracked fenders, baseball-sized dents in both quarter panels, and chips in the paint all over.

I'm going for a stealthy, mean look, and I really want to do something that hasn't been played out already.

Personally, my opinon is that the flat black will just be interpreted as primer.

I'm rolling 16" steelies on the Camaro for the winter. I can get a good side-profile shot for you if you want someone to work some photoshop magic.

Also if you picked up a good set of steelies, I'm sure you could take them somewhere to have the offset adjusted and widened properly to fill out the wheel wells, fit some nicely sized rubber, and in general look mean as hell. I don't know why but I've always loved rat rods and tend to think that if done properly steel wheels can look really mean in a sleeper kind of way. I say go for it.

Maybe, but I'm not doing it for other people. I'm doing it because I think it looks badass. Like I said, I'm not ready to paint the car yet, I won't be ready to for a while. This thread is NOT about me painting my car. It's about looking for pictures of black steelies on a Firebird. I wasn't ready to share my plans with the world, because they are nowhere near actually becoming reality, I'm just tossing some ideas around. The wheels, however, could be going on shortly, assuming I make my decision.

I refrained from posting threads like this for the simple reason that people thought I was wasting time, because none of my ideas became reality, and people got tired of hearing about it.

Yeah, I'd really appreciate that. What kind of wheels are you running? Stock steelies or aftermarket? The steelies I'm looking at can be ordered in a variety of sizes, and I can choose the width and backspacing when I order them.

What is the ideal backspacing for my car? I'm looking at these wheels:

They come in all different sizes. I'm looking at 15" x 7" (or 15" x 8") for the front, and 15" x 10" (or 15" x 12") for the rear. . . Backspacing on most of them is 3.75", but the wider rims have a 4" backspacing. . . I don't know exactly what the ideal backspacing would be for my car.

                      I won't lie...first time I read this thread I went "Oh gawd..."

Now, I think it could be interesting if executed correctly.

Don't know how "mean" it's going to look ('cause I don't think it will...and if you think you look mean, you better be mean...), but it certainly hasn't been played out yet.

                      New-age rat rod...yeah, I can see that...

Do it right, and I think it could look good.

But after seeing how the Camaro ended up, once you started the major modifications (i.e. the Grand Am hood graft), the Camaro quickly went into the wrecking yard...is that where this one is going?

                      Just an observation...

Oh, and that "murdered out" phrase ranks as a 10 on the Retarded Scale...lol...

EDIT: 15s would NOT look good IMHO...must be 16s or 17s...

I don't know if those wheels are made in 16", but that's what I was thinking too. 16" wheels would be ideal, since tires for anything 17" and larger are rather expensive. I'll probably be running some simple radials, like BFG Radial T/A's, IDK if I want the white letters facing out or not. . .

This vehicle will be worked on by professionals. I won't be able to do the work myself, since I'll be gone, but I have met with a few people to discuss some ideas and get some ideas on pricing. I tried to sell my car, but that didn't happen, so now I'm going to make it what I want and keep it.

Oh, and regards to the "You better BE mean" comment. . . Ben and I met with a local engine builder yesterday. . . No details are going to be shared until the car is out of the shop, but I guarantee, the car WILL be mean. . .

Those are cool. . . Black center with the chrome lip. . . in 16" or 17" would be HOT. . . I was thinking that I would be better off with some black wheels with a polished/chrome lip, but steelies have a bit of a "Hot Rod" look that you just can't get with the more modern wheel designs. I was also looking at some mag wheels and older aluminum wheels, but the steelies stand out a little more to me. . .

I'm open to suggestions. I'm looking for something lightweight, strong, and inexpensive. A set of 17" tires is more than I can afford, and I personally would rather be able to get better tires in a smaller size than have to get lower-end tires to be able to use 17" rims. The tires that are on the Firebird right now cost over $800, I can't justify spending that much on tires for a primarily street car.

Eh? Where else would you justify it?
