v6 Springs on a v8?

Hey guys,

I could've sworn I heard that some people use v6 springs on their v8 for whatever reason. my dad also thinks that the v6 rear springs should work perfectly fine because the LT1 doesn't add any weight to the rear. Since the K-member that I bought came with stock LT1 springs for the front, do I still need to purchase LT1 springs for the rear?

People use V6 springs on V8s for drag racing because they have lower spring rates and thus weight transfer more.

Basically in very simple terms:

V6 = Rides softer, more weight transfer, more body roll, rides a little higher, therefore more launching traction
Z28 = Rides sifter, less weight transfer, less body roll, rides a little lower, therefore less launching traction

They are by no means a must, however unless youre drag racing i would recommend finding a set... im sure they are cheap.

actually... i think i disagree with that website. There is NO WAY my 95 z28 has softer rear springs than my 98 v6. Nor are they the same ride height. My V6 sits AT LEAST an inch higher.

I feel my post is somewhat null and void now that i dont trust my own data source

I'm not sure they are the same, but when i talked to pace about an engine swap he said that some people use v6 springs anyways in the rear. The rear springs still experience the added weight in the car but not as drastic as the fronts. Your should be fine, but if it would make you feel better i found ls1 springs on ebay for 50 bucks for the whole set. Good luck with the swap!!!!!

well I put z28 springs on my 3800 and they looked exactly the same, And the same height when out of the car, Also the Z28 springs made the car sit better and not squawk

93-97 may have been the same height... but when i park my 95 next to my 99 there is a very noticeable difference in ride height, and its mostly in the rear. I feel like ive opened a can of worms now. Maybe someone can find the part numbers each used?

that definitely explains the 4x4 phenomenon on newer Z28s then if they all sit as high as my v6.
