  • tire ?'s

I am lookin for a nice set of tires to go on my 97 Z28. I need some advice on a sticky tire that will hook decent at the track, but wont wear out in one summer because i dont have a seperate set of wheels to put them on. They will be my DD. Also, if anyone has a set of wheels they want to get rid of, shoot me a message.

He want's something that WON'T wear out in one year. Most people are lucky to get 10-12K miles out of Nittos and that's if they take it easy and don't race much.

You didn't specify what price range you're looking in, or size. I'm guessing you have stock 16x8 wheels and run 245/50/16 tires. BFG KDW's are a good choice but are on the expensive side. I like the Toyo Proxes I had on my SS and now have on my V6. They discontinued the model I have. They stick well and have worn well so far. I managed to cut a 12.98 with them on my stock SS when 13.02 was the best I could ever get with the stock Goodyears.

I have about 25k on my nitto dr's and the car will spin them at will.
just don't put over 22 or so psi in them on the street or they wear the centers out

I have 18's on my car, but am looking to get some track wheels and tires.
Don't know if there are any good DR for an 18, or if that's just a waste of time. Should I look for tires for my 18's, or go with a track pair? By the way, I have owned my present car for about 2 years and have only put about 2k miles on it.

            Thanks,
            Justin

I would pick up a cheap pair of salad shooters or some other cheap 16" rim...then youll have a lot more choices when it comes to tires...and cheaper too

Salad shooters or other cheap 16" factory wheels are your best bet, then buy some nice drag radials and your all set.

Thanks, I have been looking around, with no luck. not looking to spend a ton on track wheels. LOL Should I get a set, or just a pair for the back? If anyone has some decent 16's they wanna get rid of, let me know.

                  Thanks,
                  Justin

I have heard that if you run smaller wheels on the back, it can screw up your launch. Any truth?

None...the more tire sidewall you have the better off you are.

And both Nitto and BFG make a 18" DR...but like the others, I would go with a smaller wheel and as big a sidewall as you can fit...

Good to know, now I just have to find some wheels. LOL It's proving to be more difficult than I originally thought it would.
