  • Fattest tires on a 3rd Gen

Just out of curiosity, what would be the widest tire I could fit in the back of a 3rd Gen Camaro. Figure in a 4th Gen rear end, lowering springs and 17" wheels.

Anyone happen to know this tidbit of info off hand?

Nothing yet, I'm just trying to gauge for later. Once I fix it, I'd like to lower it (1 or 2", whatever a decent set of springs'll do), and put on some nice rims (maybe chrome IROCs) and some fat tires in the back.

Should be room for 275's maybe 285's if you have the right offset wheels and roll the fender lip. I've seen pics of one with 315's but not sure if it was tubbed or what was done to it. If you're planning on lowering, I'd stick with a 275.

Okay, sounds about what I thought would fit.

That would mean a...how wide of a rim?

yeah if you plan on going with the chrome iroc they only come in 8 inch widths so the max you will prolly be able to put on it is like a 255.

Hmm, might have to think about that then...

                  ...I love fat rear tires.

I have a 295 on a 10 inch wide rim and it's real effing tight back there.....seen a 315 done but it looks goofy.

Are you lowered? Any fender mods?

Yes, lowered 1.5 inchs and I rolled the fender lip. Also had to massage the inner fender in a couple spots due to rubbing issues.

I know the 4th gen rear ends stick out a little further, would that give me a little more clearance for a wider tire (now it would be out a tad further)?

No....the 4th gen axle is about 2 inches wider per side....all that does is place the wheel mounting surface further out.....it will have no effect on how big of wheel you can fit up into the wheel house.

Well, what I'm getting at, is that a 285 tire might fit better without massaging the wheel housings because it would be mounted further outwards.
