  • Tire Design Question.

Forgive the way this is addressed to a manufacture. I sent it to Mickey Thompson last week, and as I expected no response, so I figured I will start posting around to get some input. Let me know what you guy/girls think and if you happen to be running one or the other or something different that works well for you.

ET Drag, or ET Street Radial???

I have a question or two about the two tire designs listed in the title. I am planning to set my car up with a set of rims and tires for strictly 1/4 mile drag use. What I am wondering is which tire is going to be best for me. From what i know and what seems obvious the ET drag would be the best tire, but here in comes the issue. I plan to run a 15" X 8" rim, this being said the only ET Drag tire that your specs say is able to running on a 8" rim is the #3052 26.0/8.5-15 with the L8 compound and an overall tread width of 8.1". As i stated it seems the obvious choice, but when you compare it to the ET Street Radial #3753R 26 X 11.50R15 with the R2 compound and an overall tread width of 11.3" that is also stated to be run on a 7.5-9.5 rim, I have to question if the added tread width of 3.2" in the street radial would make it a better gripping tire, or is the true et drag slick wrinkle wall design just far superior that it exceeds any difference?

I don't know for sure as I have not gotten it on a dyno yet, but estimates put it in the 350-375 hp range.

Auto, and nope it's no LT1 at all. It's a rebuilt 350 from an older car with some moderate modifications. It's running off a 750cfm speed demon carb. It currently has a stock rear end...which i think will end up having to get replaced shortly after I get some better tires.

Where is this info coming from? I am having a hard time believing that. I feel the 3.2" inches of additional tread width in the street radial would make it a better tire. But there in lies the issue. Get some supporting facts and I will believe you.
