  • Starting a Wheel Project! Need Opinions!

    I've got 3 sets of rims. . .

First set is from a 1998 Corvette C5. They are chrome, and they are the same wheels seen on my car in my sig.

Second set is a set of stock 1997 V6 Firebird rims, they are the stock Silver color, and they are in pretty good condition.

Third set is a set of stock 1998 Formula wheels, the Silver "Twisted Spoke" design that is similar to those used on Grand Prix's and the like.

My question is, of the three sets of wheels, which should I put on my car? I'm using the '98 Formula wheels right now, because I need a pair of 18" tires for the rear 'Vette rims, someone slashed one of the tires last fall, and it's gonna run me $400 for a new pair.

If I put any of them on, they aren't going to remain the same as they are right now. If I use the 'Vette rims, the chrome will be ground off, they will be prepped and painted or Powdercoated either Black or Gunmetal Gray.

If I use the stock '97 V6 'Bird wheels, I'm going to strip the paint off and polish them. Same plan as what I would like to do to the '98 Formy wheels. I just want some opinions. I know that either route is a lot of work, but I feel that if I put the time into this project, it will really pay off in the end.

Post up any thoughts/suggestions for me, and I will make my decision within the next couple of weeks.

Some people say it's a fad but I love the look of black and charcoal rims. I'd do up the set of C5 wagon wheels. Do you plan on powder coating the whole thing or just the spokes?

My opinion: I would sell all 3 sets of wheels, use the money to get some better ones.

I wouldnt go down to a 16" like Joel said and I'm not a fan of wagon wheels.

I don't have a perfect set of wheels. The chrome is pitted, flaking, and just plain ugly on the C5's, the Formy's have some curb rash, as do the 97 Bird wheels. The 97 wheels are arguably in the best condition of the three. I need to keep a set for winter tires, at least until I'm able to get a decent beater.

thats hard to pick on those three, i would honestly just sell them people always need the light wheels for racing setups, if you want chrome and dont mind 16s just get the stock chrome firebird wheels, or save a little more for the ws6 17s.

If you don't have money to buy tires I would suggest fixing up a set of those 16's you've got. I personally think the wheels i gave you look better than the twisted GP style wheels.
