  • Lowering spring installation help

Ok, I've got my Konis and my Vogtlands now I've got a 3 day weekend coming up and I'm gonna put them in. The rears are a peice of cake but what do I really have to do in the front? Do you have to take off the master cylinder and separate the upper or lower balljoints? Anyone have a small write up on it? Just wondering what I'm in for....

Yeah the rears no joke took me like 5 mins. But for the fronts, yes I took off the master(not really a big deal), and Disconnected the ball joint, Than removed all the bolts, 5 all together top and bottom?(just not the big one in the middle haha), than just took a big pry bar to pull the lower control arm down and they pretty much just pulled right out. You do need a strut compressor but other than that you don't really need any "special" tools. You really only need a few hours, Shit with 3 days you should be able pull the motor do a H/C swap and get it back in haha.

haha, I wish I had that kind of money!

I think I'm just going to take the springs to Brandon Tire (local tire shop) to put them together.

Dude Tom...I installed springs and shocks on my Z this summer by myself and it took about 3-4 hours. With your ability it should be a piece of cake.

Thats a good ideal. I have done springs with a hand compressor, and also just taking them to a shop to have the springs swaped. Much safer and easier to have a shop do it.

The master has to be unbolted to get the T50's off. Its easier if the sway bar is disconnected. The hardest part of the whole job is getting the center nut off the strut cause they tend to hold water there and rust. When I put them back together I fill the pocket with grease so the nut and rod will not rust again. If you take them someplace make sure they don't spin the strut rod when removing the nut. It kills the seals and your strut will soon start leaking
I have to install a set of springs on a 98 Z tommorrow night

Yeah I forgot we had to heat the shit out of the center nut on one of them and I had to buy a new upper strut plate because all the rubber was melted

I've used strut compressors quite a few times but it's always been at school or work. I won't have access to either this weekend while I'm back at my parents.
