Anyone around making there own SFC as well as things like LCA's and Panhard bars?. If so did you go with tubular or square? Any pictures of custom setups?

Bought mine.... they arent that expensive that you should have to make yur own...

They aren't too hard to make but is it really worth it? You can buy a set pretty cheap and they come powdercoated.

If you have the equipment, go for it. I would.

But the rod ends are the expensive part.. and you cant really make those yourself..

Well the reason i was asking is well theres a few.
1. I would rather make them because then it gives it more of a "My car feeling". The more i do my self the more and more i fall in love with the car and the less I'll be able to bring my self to sell it or do something stupid.

2. I have an Independent study in school. Right now I'm working on building a 192'' X 80'' car hauler, Still have about 2 weeks left in the class and then my next trimester i have another Ind. Study. Ill have the trailer finished built and painted we'll withing 2 weeks. All i need left to do is weld the spring mounts on and then fully weld the trailer. So for another 12 weeks i have nothing else to build. So i asked him if i could build that stuff and fix my floor. Then once i get done with that I'll Machine some stuff or something.

So i figure i have plenty of time to weld the pieces together.
As for money... If i uses 2x2x1/8 sq. tube it costs me $1.89 a foot i believe. A 20 ft length is the shortest length i can buy. Well that is if i keep using Bills custom fab in mt. pleasant but they made me very mad and sort of screwed me over. A place in Ithica has shorter lengths I believe.So for $37.80 plus tax i can get the metal. Labor is free. So... The money saved can go into something else for the car.

Well if you are going to take a shot at it remember you want as light as possible and as strong as possible. I think I'm going to buy some Adj. LCA's and Relo Brackets when I get home

Oh really?. Ive never seen some SFC up close. I just figured that it was 2x2... And as for thickness i had no clue but my teacher stocks 2x2x1/8 so i just assumed.

what would you recommend? 1x1 doesn't seem strong enough to me. But i guess anything is better then nothing.1x1 or should i look for some 1x2.

Think i should make a cross brace and weld it on or no?

I've made plenty of suspension parts over the years. For this car, so far I made an adjustable Panhard bar. I made it from 1 1/2" Rollcage Tubing. It's bent to clear full dual exhaust. I have about $40 invested into it. To buy one is over $300. With the LCA's I just boxed them. I'll be making an adjustable Torque arm this winter, along with a Strut Tower brace. Make sure the parts you make get there added strength through structure, not material thickness, or mass. If you have the tools and ability to make them yourself, it's really a simple, and rewarding task. And can save you alot of money.
