  • 2nd/3rd gen steering box ratio, whatcha got?

There's a guy at my work doing a ground up on an 87' Formula and his next mini project is the steering box. (He's almost joined MiFbody, soon I've been told)

Stock 3rd gen steering boxes came with 16:1 and 17:1 I believe but there are remanufacturers that will put 14:1 or 12:1 ratios in for you.

This guy found one such place that will reman. your steering gears for $275 plus shipping.

SO the question is: Who has 12:1 or 14:1 and how do you like it?

There seems to be some conflicting info on this subject as I have looked before. Some sources say the IROC boxes got the 12:1 while others say it was a 14:1 with high effort valving and modified internal stops. I don't know what mine is, but I like it!!!!

I have one on my T/A and would only suggest it for track/occasional street use. I wanted to DD my car in the summer and the manual rack got on my nerves. I'll sell it to you if I end up taking my car apart this winter.

That is interesting. I was under the impression that 12:1 and 14:1 were aftermarket ratios and the 16/17:1 were stock ratios that depended on what vendor made your steering box.

How many turns lock to lock does it take?
