Tire Danger today

Well, for a while now, ive been telling myself, and ppl have been telling me that i am in need of some new tires, well, mainly the back ones.

I was driving to GR to school this morning and it was raining, and all of the sudden i flew to the other lane and i was fishtailing a lot. I think its because im running basically slicks in the back......heres your sign...

So now i need to scrounge up some money for at least 2 tires, cause i just spent 300 of books.

????????????? My dad has some new ones in the barn, 245 17 40's goodyears, same as mine now, but 245. The ones i have now are 275. Do you think i should just put the front 275's in the back and the 245's up front??? Or just buy 2 more tires, or maybe 4 if i can get money, but i might need to do it NOW.

Switch 'em. it might be a pain be its a sight better then flying into a wall and totaling your car or worse totaling yourself.

Be specific, should i put the 245's on the front and the 275s pon the back.....or is that a bad idea...or get 2 new, 4 new

245/40/17's are going to be shorter than your rear tires if you put the 275's back there and will cause your ABS to go nuts. If they are 245/45 tires then they'll be the same diameter and not cause issues.

They might be 45, i cant remember, i was kinda guessing (maybe a bad idea)

Ill check tommorow though, but the 245 275 combo should work ok right?, ive never had different in the front and back....but i know ppl do it all the time, just wanted to make sure.

As long as they're the same diameter you'll be good. 245/45/17 is a common size and is the same diameter as the 275/40/17 you have. It'll probably steer easier and not wanter as bad with the 245's on the front either.

I should be all good then, just checked them and they are 245 45 17, so it should work out just fine.......

well, went out in the barn today, and was talking to my dad about the tires, and he remembered that one of them is bad, the bead is all ripped up from when they put it on last time......soooooo now ive gotta start over

I can either now buy one 245, or just say screw it and get a whole new set.....arrrggg

if i get a whole new set im prolly not gooing to get the goodyear 300 dollar a piece ones, ill get something cheaper....any sugesstoins

Check ebay. I've found some great deals on there. I just ordered up a set of 275/35/18 Bridgestone tires BRAND NEW for $120 each! What's your budget? If you want to save some money go with an H speed rated tire vs a W, Y or Z rated tire. TONS of options for tires out there, comes down to what you want and how much you have to spend.
