  • General Specs on Camaro / Firebird

I thought this was a little to good to put into the pit. I wanted to know what my transmission was. Turns out that the 97 Firebird Base model came with a 4L60E which from what I am hearing is compatible with an LT1 motor. That saves me some major cash when I go to do a swap next year. Lots of good info on 4th gens. Check it out...

ya "bell housing" is different... it use to match up back in the day with the old 3.8 to small blocks... but not anymore... still gotta get a new trans... otherwise you would see everyone doing a swap.. besides toss a v-8 on that v-6 trans say bye to your trans in about 3 months tops...

its same internals pretty much same trans code.. 4l60 but doesnt bolt up the same and the internals i think are different some of the gearing...it would have been smart to make all of them the same save some money but hey let gm decide how to waste money i guess...

Darn oh well. Back to the drawing board. It was nice thinking I could have saved about a $1000 bucks off an LT1 swap. So there is not an adapter or something? And why would a V8 destroy a the trans that the 3800 II uses. I mean the 3800 II pushes more horses than traditional firebird and camaro motors?
