Hmm that's a good idea too. It's that or the mineral spirits... Probably don't want to mix them

All in all its not too bad. That was about 2 hours worth of work. I figure I have about another 2 hours left.Originally posted by MP81 View PostLooks like that's going to be pretty tedious! Good luck with that! Looking good so far.
It will be painted. Either Rustoleum oil-based or POR-15. Based on my experience with both, Rustoleum is better and costs a lot less.Originally posted by PewterPan View Postwhat kind of undercoating are you going to use, paint or the rubberized stuff?

Last night I finished up with the wire wheel and getting the majority of the undercoating off. I soaked it with mineral spirits and let it sit until this evening.
I was able to get 95% of the remaining areas with a putty knife that I couldn't reach with the wire wheel. The mineral spirits definitely loosened those areas up and it's looking pretty clean.
This weekend we will power wash the cradle and underside of the car.
Then we'll roll it back inside, strip the front suspension off and throw it in the bin to get media blasted. Then we'll scuff the underbody and firewall, wipe it down and shoot some flat black paint.
After looking over the engine bay some more, we thought it would be nice to pull the fender wells to have the undercoating media blasted off. Well that quickly escalated into pulling the rocker trim, fenders and core support
. So now the core support will also go to media blast and get cleaned up.
I tried talking my Dad into sending it to the paint shop to get a fresh coat of green since we have most of the hard work done, but that really starts to turn this thing into a project.
Enjoy the pics!

I spent Saturday morning power washing the underside of the car on the lift and the engine bay outside. It's ready to be painted, just need to finish up the compressor line filters for the spray gun.

Not a lot of progress from this past weekend, but I worked on stripping the front end of the suspension and steering components. Hopefully some night this week I can get back to it and pull the springs and a-arms. Most of these items will be powder-coated and will get new bushings or will be entirely replaced.
This weekend I would like to pull the rear end and paint the under carriage, but we'll see how far we get.
Pics from this weekend.
Think the shocks are toast? Wouldn't rebound at all...

Tonight was pretty productive!
My Dad and I managed to get the from a-arms and springs off as well as the motor mount brackets. The front end is now nothing more than frame rails!
We then removed the rear end and all the suspension components back there.
The transmission and rear end are now in the bed of my truck and will be dropped off to the trans/gear shop tomorrow morning. The transmission will be inspected and likely freshened up. The rear end is slated for more of an inspection and maybe a gear swap. The gear that's in it makes for a high revving experience on the highway.
One more go around with the wire wheel under the car and it will be ready for a final prepsol wipe and then paint. Looking like it won't be warm enough to paint this weekend (I need to have the bay door open for ventilation). So more time to prep and organize parts to go out for powder coating.
Enjoy the pics!

Nice progress.
I'm sure you know this, but it looks like you are getting close to "tipping off the back of the lift" territory. Be careful.DynoDave
