I'm generally not too great about taking pictures and documenting things, but I'm going to give it a shot for once. Last summer I made the decision to sell my 97 WS6 TA. It was my first real "build" and turned out to be a great car and fun project, but I realized after finishing the build that my needs had changed since starting it and I was rarely wanting to drive it. I decided that I'd get a lot more enjoyment out of a car that was less attention-grabbing, well-mannered, and able to be daily driven yet was just as fast if not faster. I ended up buying a 2002 Z28 with 42k miles in Sunset Orange Metallic with a T56 and bone-stock other than a Flowmaster muffler and appearance mods. SOM is a little louder than I would have liked in terms of color, but it does look great and I'm hoping its desirability will give me a fleeting chance at retaining a smidgen of its value should I ever want to sell.
The concept I've had in mind is that I want a poor-man's version of the current ZL1. While making 580 crank hp is more-or-less easy for a modified LS motor these days, the goal for this project is more focused on the overall package than just the performance. I want to build a 4th-gen that gives the modern factory muscle cars a run for their money at 1/3 the cost: excellent power/torque, above-average handling/braking, while at the same time not making compromises to OEM comfort, manners, drivability, reliability, and efficiency. Ironically, this will actually end up being more of an "old school" build since parts/methods from the past were geared more around street performance than race performance unlike today. I have pretty high standards for the work I do and have given a lot of thought to planning out the components used to meet my goals. I'm pretty stubborn when it comes to not compromising what I want and I am excited to see how this turns out.
