  • [Project] 89 Camaro

Not to sure where to start at with this. This will be my second turd gen I have owned. First one was sold when I bought my 96 impala. Didn't have room or time for 2 projects. Well I still dont have the room or time yet here i am.

It's an 89 Camaro, originally a v6 auto car. Body is pretty solid. Interior needs a little love. Other than its a bunch of small stuff.

Plans for the car...nothing is set in stone yet.
    5.3L/t56.
    Turbo....A big one.
May build the bottom end to withstand the abuse. I might also go to a 400 trans since I have one.
4th gen rear end swap. Preferably LS1 style.

I may end up stripping this car complete and having a dedicated track car.

Everything can change so who knows what will happen.

Here's a sneak peak at the car and my other project.

Sounds like it will be a fun project. I look forward to following it.

As a 3rd Gen guy, I'm not as knowledgeable as I should be on 4th Gens. What rear axle did they use? I thought it was still a 7.6" 10 bolt. What was different on the LS1 style rear?

12 bolt, 8.8, 9 inch, S60 - all available from many different companies.

I personally wouldn't run a big turbo with a manual and expect to have fun with it on the street

Th400 is more than likely going to be used. I'm sure like many, the car will go through its phases.

OK. Yes, I've heard third gen. folk talk about an LS brake upgrade. I was thinking perhaps they had something stronger than a 10 bolt under them.
