  • [Project] 1992 camaro project throw out the 305

I'm sure a lot of you have seen I bought another camaro. If not here is what I got.
Its a 92 camaro rs 25th anniversary teal color. It has t-tops 305 auto trans.
This car came from Louisiana in 2009. I bought if off an older guy who collects cars. He was selling this one because it was too new to get the cheap insurance.
I was already in the process of building a engine until I found a nice roller. Just happen to find this so I picked it up. It is very clean rust free car. It doesn need seats, which I got off a member on here going to pick up this weekend.
here is what my engine is
    355 4 bolt
    Performer rpm cam
    Edelbrock performer rpm heads
    Rpm air gap intake
    Harland sharp roller rockers
    Ati Fluid dampner
Bottom end was done by the local machine shop.
    Forged pistons 9.5:1.
    Edelbrock rpm nitrous kit

I am still trying to figure out what carb to get.
Also what exhaust I am going to run.

I am undecided about my transmission. I am not sure if I should just put a converter on my 700r4 (it shifts good and has a shift kit) or buy a new th400 trans. Any thoughts on this???? I am pretty sure to run my stock trans I need to get some kind of controller for my lockup.

This motor will not kill the 700r4 it isn't making a lot of hp. I would say you're 700 will be fine with a 3000 stall and call it good. I wouldn't go 400 unless you REALLY need it. it will hinder you a lot. Plus I would go 350 if you're set on a 3 speed as they have a better first gear for lower hp cars.

Yes you will need a lockup kit. Which are pretty simple to do. Plus a linkage to mount on the carb for the tv cable.

Headers are a few ways to look at. Shorties would give you better routing options for ALOT better ground clearance. Longtubes help make more hp but you'll having crappy ground clearance unless you go to a stick shift and can rout the tubes next to the tranny.

As for carb I would only run a 650 on that motor. If it had more compression I would say a 700 or 750 but at 9.5:1 it just doesn't have the compression.

What's your reasoning for not running atleast 11:1 on aluminum heads? And how many rpms do you plan on turning this motor?

      Btw way nice car!!

Edlebrock recomends using their thunder avs 800 carb. They claim 410 hp with this kit and 9.5 comp.

I personally think its way to much carb an you're throttle response would suck. I would run a 700 with a 1" spacer.

I will have aspacer from my nitrous kit on it. I had this set up before on my 85 with a 750. and I was fine with that. this is the same exact setup as edelbrocks crate engine exact everythng they run a 800 on it so have to imagine they know what they are talking about.

The spacers helps then with the 750. How hard do you turn the motor?

It's just going to be a driver with a little speed. I don't beat on my car or really street race. I do go to the track a few times in the summer. I think 800 is much but it is what they put on their engines. If I buy it and it doesnt work I am not too worried about it just a few hundresd bucks I am sure I wil use it on a differnt proect later. I would like to get it right the first time though.

For exhaust I have shorties on it now with a y-pipe going to the flowmaster muffler.

I may go with new shorty heards to that exhaust with a electric cut out which I already have

                  or
Go with long tubes and bullets dumped.

Actually I am wrong about my cam I have the Rollin' Thunder Hydraulic Roller 2210. I ran the rpm with my last set up. Everything else is right. I will take pics when I get home of the engine setup and more of the car.

Are you going for cheapest or what they run? I would go with a Barry grant or quickfuel. I have a Barry grant grant with no choke horn or none of that extra junk I couldn't be happier. I think they're one of the best on the market.

If you got a 750 then I would run it. I carb without a choke horn and extra bs will be a lot better. If you don't plan on driving it for a daily drive then I wouldn't worry about having a choke. Mine starts fine even when it's 50 just gotta give it a sec to warm up.

I would go Barry grant or quickfuel then they're one of the best IMO. The quality is amazing. They're not cheapest but they're perfect.

Got more pics of you're car?! Looks really nice!!

I will get some more pics this weekend.

I have another questions. Can I use the serp belt setup off my 305? I dont see why not. I have a new edelbrock water pump to use. My alternator on the car is new. If so I am going to send the brakets in for powder coat this week.
