  • [Project] 4th Gen Dash Removal

Well I wanted to get rid of the box at the firewall after removing my A/C. In order to successfully do that without removing the engine, you have to remove the dash. So that is what I did. I fully removed the dash and all HVAC pieces. Upon removing the pieces that I "planned" on saving, they all busted every time I touched them due to being so brittle... kind of like the dash pad. So.. this is going to be a "RACE CAR" now, no heat or A/C and I'm providing a lot of pics through out the process of removing the dash, and everything related to it. Hope this helps anyone, because I couldn't find anything on it. I also have questions about what certain things are, so please check in from time to time.
Oh, and I'm going to need the delete plate, anyone feel like making one I could buy from them. BMR and UMI sells them for just under 100.00, forget that.

So here is the first pic. Obviously the dash has already been removed, I decided to start taking pics once i removed it sorry. Pretty easy to tell what needs to go though as far as bolts go.
So if I am not running any heat, then all the colorful little lines that go to the heat/ac controls can go correct??(the ones pointed at with orange arrows)
And does anyone know what the box is with the green arrow??? It's blown up in the 2nd pic.

This is what you'll be looking at once you get the dash out of the way. The goal is to remove the black plastic box in the center, but everything I touched just broke.. So I ripped it all out!
There are a series of bolts surrounding the plastic housing. Make sure you get them all for ease of removal. The one on the bottom left of the housing screws from the engine side and is basically impossible to get to. Just have to break it off at that spot.
    DSCN0955 (1024x768).jpg
Once you get the housing cover off, your heater core will be exposed and will look like this.
    DSCN0957 (1024x768).jpg
Now go ahead and disconnect the lines from the heater core via the engine side, unbolt the little clamp that holds the two hoses together, two more screws that hold the core in place om the dash side, and it should come out. Once removed, you'll be left with this.

Im going to update this more, I already have everything done, just need time to do the thread. Gotta take the lady out to dinner so I'll update it later. Peace.

Finally got the the BCM. These things can really mess your ride up so be careful not to bang it around too much.
    DSCN0954 (800x600).jpg
Just another pic of the hvac assembly.
    DSCN0955 (800x600).jpg
To get the platic HVAC box off, there are some really deep screws in the firewall. they screw in from both sides of the wall as well.
    DSCN0956 (800x600).jpg
Once you get that cover off, the heater core will be exposed. This is up to you if you want to keep it or not.
I did not, so it's getting removed. If you're keeping it, handle with care.
    DSCN0957 (800x600).jpg
This is the housing that the blower sits in. This is going as well.
    DSCN0958 (800x600).jpg
And the heater core is removed! Again, be sure to get all screws, and disconnect hoses on engine side as well as clamp.
    DSCN0959 (800x600).jpg
Making head way, starting to believe there is hope!
    DSCN0960 (800x600).jpg
This piece was soo hard to get out!Even with the dash removed it was a real b****.
    DSCN0961 (800x600).jpg
Yes, there is a bolt way back there! Don't forget it.
    DSCN0962 (800x600).jpg
    More heating ducts gone!!
    DSCN0963 (800x600).jpg
Finally! Very challenging getting that anchor out of there! Pry about 25lbs All the bolts on my manifold
where you can see were FINGER loose! Crazy!Never would have known until a future header swap. Glad I did this
    DSCN0964 (800x600).jpg
    From the pass. seat.
    DSCN0965 (800x600).jpg
You know?!? I might as well delete the EGR while it's all right here! Screw it, i'M GOING IN!
    DSCN0966 (800x600).jpg
Got the block-offs today. Needed all three since I still have the stock manifolds but not for long!
Look at the gap on that maniflod gasket! You could literally shove a quarter in there. How did I not hear this!?! Oh well, she's tight now!
    DSCN0967 (800x600).jpgDSCN0977 (800x600).jpg
Pulled out the EGR solenoid, and plugged the vacuum port.
    DSCN0978 (800x600).jpgDSCN0979 (800x600).jpg
Definitely cleaned her up a bit...
    DSCN0980 (800x600).jpg
...well still not real clean, but at least there's some more space These things need all the space they can get!
    DSCN0982 (800x600).jpg
Here's the parts I got rid of. Egr pipe, Egr solenoid, and the EGR itself.
    DSCN0983 (800x600).jpgDSCN0984 (800x600).jpgDSCN0985 (800x600).jpg
Just a couple engine pay pics. Look at all that space! God I love it!! Can we say Header swap?!?
Note, make sure to use an RTV silicone or similar to seal the plate to the wall. Don't want any fumes creeping in.
    DSCN0986 (800x600).jpgDSCN0987 (800x600).jpg
A couple in car shots. Still need to seal the holes but at least she's mounted!(that sounded dirty)
Cracked the window!! Oh my God I am sooo ******* mad/disappointed with myself about this
Not even going to say how I did this, I'd rather save face.
    DSCN0988 (800x600).jpgDSCN0989 (800x600).jpg
Sorry I don't have any in between pics, but the dash is back in place. I just got carried away and didn't stop to take pics. Damn beer! Makes
me forget things lol. Just need to assemble her back together and it's a done deal! Probably going to remove the air bag module from the
center console as well. No point in being there. Going to pitch the stock steering wheel anyway.
    DSCN1019 (800x600).jpgDSCN1020 (800x600).jpgDSCN1021 (800x600).jpgDSCN1022 (800x600).jpg
Probably going to leave the hvac control panel in place for looks. Just makes it look more original.
    DSCN1023 (800x600).jpgDSCN1024 (800x600).jpg
Im going to keep updating this. Picking up headers from Kammi this weekend. That will be done next. Getting a comp stage II clutch and dashpad from another user on here(already mine, just need to pick it up)
I could really use a good bezel though. Mine sucks, no plastic face cover, bubbled paint from previous jacka** who owned it. I'm all about parts right now! Middle console to, mine is shit, ash tray broke, shifter boot gone, arm rest piece broke. Need one!

Good work. I kinda did the same thing except I cut the box flush with the firewall so I could keep my heat. Yours definitely looks cleaner tho.

So I know this is an older thread but do you have any dimensions on that metal piece you fabricated for the fire wall??

LS6 cam, LS6 valve springs, built tranny w/ 3k vigilante converter, 160 t-stat, SLP exhaust and headers, HAL suspension and go-fast juice
