As I posted earlier, I just bought a 1998 camaro rs roller. And have been going with the plans of the v6. Just for the facts I have no parts for the swap. But as the time comes, I changed my mind, and I plan on buying an lt1 car. Jderry is helping me, and I plan on starting in the next 3 weeks. There will be plenty of pictures. This is going to be a long few weeks, I'm just happy to finally own myself a nice fbody! Will update asap!

By the time you buy a LT1 car to do the swap, you might as well just sell your '98 roller and buy a decent LT1 car complete. Realistically a pretty nice LT1 car is only $4k these days...
Swapping from a V6 to a V8, especially non matching years, is going to end up costing you more money and will probably always have little issues... Buy something that's not all hacked up and have fun with it!2000 Trans Am l 1967 Firebird

That's what I suggested also.
My swap was only a year off and there were so many differences.
I found him an Lt1 car needing head gaskets for $700.
Picking up a car needing work for under $1,000 would be the way to go in my opinion.sigpic

I don't know how long if ever you'll save that extra money through insurance savings.Originally posted by Aaron_Dahl View PostThat may be true.. But I don't have that kind of money.. Also, doing the swap is going to be way cheaper on insurance. Which ill save money there. There is tons of ideas going through my head. Not quite sure where to go.
I was thinking your best bet would be to find a car for ~ $1,000 and work from there.
You could probably get that out of your roller.sigpic

You'll need another car to do a swap easily anyways.sigpic

Trust us... we've watched countless people do the V6 to V8 swap on here and not once has it gone smoothly and worked with no issues, not to mention come in on or under budget by any means. Trying to piece together a swap without a donor car will just make it that more difficult.
Your best bet is to sell your roller and save up until you can afford a LT1 car...2000 Trans Am l 1967 Firebird

My swap was not too bad, but it's a very special exception.
I made money on mine, and it went fairly smoothly.
But I agree, he's better off either putting the 3.8l in his car, and selling it for ~3,500 and buying a LT1 car.
Or just selling the roller.sigpic

the idea of putting a 3.8 in and selling is the best idea IMO. sell it for 3 or 4k. buy an lt1 car for 3 or 4k. there are way too many details and issues to deal with.98 z28, m6, monster clutch, eibach pro kit, custom twin turbo setup, 317 heads, z06 valve springs, arp rod bolts, 512rwhp at 10lbs. cobra eater
