This project has been delayed several times but now that it’s nearing completion I wanted to share my progress.
Background: After a few cam changes it became clear that I was at the limit of my stock LS1 heads. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money so I looked into porting my stock heads vs. buying already ported stock castings. I ended up buying a set of Livernois Stage 2 LS6 heads during a black Friday sale. My plan was to start the installation during my Christmas vacation.

Delay #1: The day my heads were delivered my wife was involved in a head on collision. The accident wasn’t her fault but she ended up in the hospital for 3 days with a shattered knee and surgery. These types of things have a way of turning your life upside down without any notice. Overall my wife was very lucky but she couldn’t drive for 12 weeks which ate up lots of my free time. I had to drive her everywhere and pick up more slack around the house.

Delay #2: A week after my wife was released from the hospital we found out that she was pregnant. The news itself didn’t cause any delays but our decision to build a new house based on the news did. We spent countless hours talking to realtors, preparing our house for selling, and putting together plans for our new house. The house situation is still a major time killer.
Delay #3&4: Work and school. On average I travel for work about 1 week a month. For some reason this year it has been about twice as often. I am a product development engineer at a bearing company and my group is focused on wind energy. I design very large bearings for wind turbines and have customers all over the world. I also made the unwise decision to take 2 classes this semester as I work toward my MBA. I literally had zero free time from January until April and I became very good at doing homework on airplanes.
On to the good stuff. After classes where done in April and after a last minute trip to China I finally began the disassembly on May 23rd.

I decided to keep my cam (230/234 .600/.602 on 112lsa). The only other upgrade besides the heads were LS7 lifters and lifter trays.
Overall the process went very well and I was able to fire the car for the first time last night. I’m heading to Texas for 6 days this weekend and when I return I plan to start tuning. With any luck I will even make it to the track before the snow starts to fly again.
