  • [Project] West Sider Install Help

Pretty much got my winter parts collection ready to install, but my lack of late model experience and knowledge isn't making it likely that I can get this done by myself before Meet and Greet. I have a pretty long list of stuff to get swapped out in a short amount of time in order to get it to my tuner when done.
The basics of what I have are, Pacesetter LTs, TSP catted Y, Prothane motor mounts, BBK intake (killer deal), A/C compressor and FTI torque converter. All for the '98 T/A.
Any help any west siders could give would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't have any help to offer with being on the east side, but can you please tell me where you got the lift/ramp from? Looks like an awesome setup.

Thanks Larry, next Saturday would work out fine, I also have to work tomorrow and the rest of the weekend, 12 hour days, but next weekend I am off all weekend and will be out in the garage. Brian, that ramp/lift system is a Kwiklift. I picked it up used from an older gentleman in Kalamazoo. Real nice set up. Check it out at: www.kwiklift.com

Thanks again Larry, I really appreciate it. I'll shoot you a PM. Click on the "Price/Options" box. The prices can vary due to options, but generally about $1400 painted and shipped with the basics. Been looking at them for about 5 years, finally got a deal, and it's been worth it.

                    On an LT1...

If you cut the old exhaust off the car I have no doubt you could install pacesetters on an LS1 car in under 2 hours.

Agreed - although we couldn't get the driver side in or out with the motor bolted to the mounts on Kolin's car....

You needed to cut the casting tab off the block.

Hopefully that lift gets the car high enough to slide the longtubes in. I can't believe the people who get these jobs done laying on the garage floor, I used the lift in our shop and some parts were still a pain.
FWIW, I didn't have to cut the castings tab on my car to fit the headers in, I just had to tilt the longtube at the right angle to slide it in, a note of advice though, you will want some sort of dremel/cutting tool to notch the kmember a bit if any of the longtube piping is within a quarter of an inch to it. This will save you a lot of headaches from rattles if you get it all buttoned up and find out that the header is smacking the kmember.

Do you have some way of lifting the engine up? With my motor mounts, we loosened them up, and then used a tranny jack to raise the engine just enough to slide the old mount out, and new one in, then we left the new one loose and did the same to the other side, once both were in we just tightened it up. It shouldn't take you more than 4-6 hours (doing it casually) to get everything done. Swapping the mounts while the headers are off is a VERY good choice, I wish I would have done that with mine.

I'm taking my GMAT exam on Saturday morning, and working after that, I'll shoot Larry a text after I get out of work to see if you guys are still working on this. If so, I can stop by and lend a hand as well.

Okay Mike, Larry might be out too. I'll do what I can and get as far as I know how. Turns out I've got stuff to do in the morning any how, so I won't be able to start on it until around noon. I will also be working on it Sunday for a while, so if it rains and you guys don't go to the track...I'll be here...lol.
Good luck with your trans seal deal.
