Honestly I've always felt the exact opposite. If saving a few hundred dollars means I have to beat, curse, cry, and bleed to get them in... I'll save the few hundred dollars.Originally posted by ThreeHonks View Post"The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten"- Brian Meissen

I am more of a perfectionist and that is more frustration than I care for just to gain .2 of a second in the 1/4, for a product that fits like crap,is less durable, and is more likely to leak.Originally posted by meissen View PostHonestly I've always felt the exact opposite. When I sell the car I wouldn't be too proud of my workmanship if I had to get out the BFH multiple times to install a headers.
That was part of the reason I didn't buy headers for my camaro. By the time you buy GOOD headers, bolts, 02 extentions, gaskets, its a decent amount of money. To me, $1.00 for $1.00 it wasn't worth it.
VS my Cobalt I spent $400 for for GM stage kit and tune, which was easy to install and resulted in 20 HP and 60 ft lbs of torque, and .3-.5 of a second quicker in the quarter.Last edited by bri2203; May 12th, 2011, 10:54 AM.

My pacesetters had excellent fit other than it being tight to the driver side floorboard. Ive never had any leaks or issues either. Also i would beg to differ on headers only gaining an LT1 .2 of second. the stock manifolds are RESTRICTIVE!Originally posted by bri2203 View PostI am more of a perfectionist and that is more frustration than I care for just to gain .2 of a second in the 1/4, for a product that fits like crap,is less durable, and is more likely to leak.

LT1s like to breathe, I believe I have proven that with my car as ive gone from stock manifolds, to longtubes with cats, to longtubes with a crappy y-pipe, to longtubes with a good y-pipe, and finally the 3" duals ... and my car has shown a significant performance increase on every one of those changes.
We would have been done yesterday afternoon with time to kill if they were pacesetters. We could be moving faster than we are, but we are taking the time to do the job right given what we have to work with... making sure there is plenty of clearance, etc.Last edited by JoeliusZ28; May 12th, 2011, 12:32 PM.-Joel

I'm with Joel, my pacesetters had little to no issue with fitment, all the work I really had to do was optional other than simply replacing the manifolds with the headers.sigpic

I hope your not offended but I think I made a few valid points. I am sure some people have noticed 3/10 or 4/10ths. You bought a set of quality headers which if part of the reason why you are happy with them.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostMy pacesetters had excellent fit other than it being tight to the driver side floorboard. I have heard the complete opposite about LT1 manifolds as far as how well they flow when comparing exhaust manifolds, I wanted to put them on my chevelle but I gave it some thought and decided it wasn't worth it as I would have to run the plug wires like the corvettes do(ignition shielding).
This is quoted from speed talk member cat box
http://speedtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20464
"we dyno tested about every sbc stock exhaust manifold available on a 355, 9-1, 2 barrell stock cast intake w/modified plenum and port matched ,2-G sean smith carb, 455 lift cam, steel crank, forged piston, 2 into 1 exhaust set up on a limited motor a couple years ago,..these were the exhaust manifolds we tested,..LT1, rams horn 2 1/2, truck log, 90's camaro over the port manifolds, tube type 1 ton truck manifolds,...
the tube 1 ton truck manifolds were the best with the LT1 & rams horn about the same,...everything else was way off the mark,...our conclusion as to why the LT1 worked as well as the 2 1/4 rams horns was the design,...and both the LT1''s and the rams horns had alot more torque from 3500-6000 rpm than the tube truck manifolds,..from 5500 on to a max of 6700 the large tube truck manifolds were superior...
340 hp max @ 5500 rpm
the tests were done with 3 different rochester 2-g carbs as well,..so every manifold had at least 3 runs..
so maybe flow isnt everything?...considering the very restricted motor we tested them on it seems to be the case.."Last edited by bri2203; May 12th, 2011, 04:53 PM.

I moved the discussion about comp cams to a different thread -- figured I'd try and be nice and keep this topic some what on topic

Yes mine run under the oil filter. Not a big deal if you use the smaller filters but it does suck. I was using the larger filters.
For the $$ I saved, grinding the k member a bit, spending 5 min on the steering knuckle and letting Joel ding my header was just fine to me.
eBay headers probably added 3 hours to my install. I do wish I got a different gasket so it didnt fold down on us though.1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed
