Ok, need some more help....
We're trying to get the oil pan off, I have the back 4 K-member bolts all the way out and the front 2 only threaded in 3-4 threads. There is one oil pan bolt on the driver side that is directly inline with the bolt that holds the steering rack on. The bolt in the oil pan can only back out so far, then it hits the head of the steering rack bolt. Anyone know how to get this bolt out?
Also, so far the K-member has only dropped about 1/2"... I thought it was supposed to drop around 2" after taking all the bolts out? Do we have to take the motor mounts off (looks like a PITA)
Opinions on reusing the oil pan gasket? I read there are 2 rivets that hold the gasket in place...
Thanks,2000 Trans Am l 1967 Firebird

just loosen the bolts and rock the engine back.. . ..im assuming that this is what you needed to have a conversation about. i got my oil pan completely out that way, you just gotta do a little bit of creative maneuvering. and yes, if you still need my arm, i can have it available.

The oil pan on my LT1 BARELY came out with the k-member as far unthreaded as i could and the engine/trans completely unmounted and rammed into the tunnel. If i had to do that again id pull the sucker.Originally posted by Lucky SOB View PostOk, need some more help....

Thanks, that'll make life easierOriginally posted by shawnc16 View PostPan gasket will be fine. We pop em on and off multiple times at work without leaks. Can you unbolt the rack to move it a bit?
The bolt head is on top of the k-member and goes down into the k member with a nut on the inside of the k-member (access through a hole in the k-member). Looks like the bolt is longer than the oil pan bolt, so it would probably hit the oil pan bolt if I tried to pull it out. can anyone confirm?Originally posted by Purple94Z28 View PostId try unbolting the rack maybe?
Loosen what bolts? engine mounts? and yes we may need your armsOriginally posted by MORNINGSTAR2101 View Postjust loosen the bolts and rock the engine back.. . ..im assuming that this is what you needed to have a conversation about. i got my oil pan completely out that way, you just gotta do a little bit of creative maneuvering. and yes, if you still need my arm, i can have it available.

How big of a PITA is it to unbolt the motor mounts and trans mounts? Did you unbolt the engine side or the k-member side?Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostThe oil pan on my LT1 BARELY came out with the k-member as far unthreaded as i could and the engine/trans completely unmounted and rammed into the tunnel. if you go ls7 lifters you may need different pushrods since they are a little taller

Good to know, I think he's keeping the stock lifters - they'll be fine. A little trip into the oil pan is nothing in comparison to the stress they see during idle.Originally posted by Dewman View Postif you go ls7 lifters you may need different pushrods since they are a little taller2000 Trans Am l 1967 Firebird
