  • [Project] Another z/28 project thread

    Hey guys,

I am in the process of prepping the car for the coming race season and also do some other stuff along the way. Pretty much the same thing Joel is doing.

First thing is my ten spokes are currently painted black and I think I am going to have them cleaned up and powder coated black, but I am unsure if I want a gloss or satin/flat black. Any opinions?
I will also be trading my stock headlights for a pair of whistlers, I think it will go good with the tinted side markers and the black wheels.

Next thing is going to be seats/harnesses. I recently picked up a set of seats and they are in the process of going in the car right now. I also have a set of 4pt harnesses that I want to put into the car but I don't have anywhere to mount them. I don't think I am willing to pony up the cash for a harness bar when I can get a 4pt or 6pt cage for the car for probably close to the same amount of money. Kinda undecided at the moment. I thought about trying to mount them somehow without either but I decided that wasn't a good idea in case I ever get in a crash so I still have a spine afterwards. I know 6LE makes one but the damn thing is $300 unpainted so yeah I don't know. Anybody have suggestions on a mfg for the main hoop for our cars?

Next is exhaust. I currently have a 3in single to a dual out flowmaster that leaks like a sieve and it is driving me nutz. It sounds awesome but I want to change it up. It will be for sale as soon as it comes out of the car if anybody is interested. I might post up a quick vid of the exhaust tone later. I think that I am going to go to a 4in single with a hidden out under the rear bumper with stainless and a dynomax muffler seeing as I can get a huge deal on one.

After that I will be replacing the motor mounts with urethane ones, I already bought them last year but never got around to putting them in.

I am also planning on dropping the car an inch or so and that will be happening pretty soon as well.

I'm sure there are some other things going on that I can't remember off the top of my head but I will update this when I get a chance. I should have the seats in tomorrow and I will post up some pictures.

Opinions and thoughts are always welcome!

Never have been a fan of black wheels personally, have you considered changing the color 'slightly' to more of a dark grey/gun metal? Pics look like they are flat, yes? Gloss would look better either way you go. Like the whistler idea too...having a set done myself that match my wheels. Urethane, solid motor mounts, etc do nothing but transmit vibration into the rest of the car. If you can hold off I have solution that eliminates motor movement under torque without sacrificing "feel". Like the exhaust idea, but love a nice set of tips out back...CME, Corsa, etc

Isnt the point of urethane mounts so that instead of letting the engine rock more power is transferred to the trans and driveshaft?

Correct. If I rev my engine now it goes all over the damn engine bay.

What are we talking about here Brent? Care to PM?

Here are some pics showing the wheels they are gloss just in the sig it doesn't look like it. I hadn't thought about a gunmetal color but I do like the dark colored wheels even though a lot of people don't.

Yeah I think it goes well with the black sail panel. And yes it is going to be lowered. I will have to post up a pic of my car after my buddies got a hold of it in the o'reilly's parking lot off of wooodward.

It is kind of hard to see but they bought a 4x4 badge and put it on my FYR sticker. They are lucky that is where they put it. They wanted to put it on the sail panel and I probably would have been in jail because I killed the both of them...lol. It was a b***h to get off too.

                    PM sent....

Tint the windows at least if you're diggin the wheels. Maybe an SLP or black Billet grille?

It is the point (and it works) but at a cost. Cost is vibration....our cars rattle enough, no sense in making it worse. I can resolve both issues...pics to come soon.

I would TJ, but pics will be easier. Once I get to that point, I'll post plenty. The principle is simple. Maintain stock 'feel' using the factory mounts while transferring lost power in torsion to the driveline. Solution? Tie the motor down. Like I said, pics are easier. Stay tuned.

I agree with everything youve got in mind so far. Are you sure you dont want true duals though?
