  • [Project] Project Formula

    I loooove red 3rd gens!

    89' Firebird Formula 5-speed, dual cat, 3.45 disc rear, 5.0 TPI - 197k miles!

The body is solid, not even cracks where the rear quarters meet the roof. Needs paint in a bad way; Anyone know an inexpensive painter in GR/West Mich? I'd like to ship a new rear spoiler direct to the painter.

    Project Items:
    Delrin front bushings
    Lower ride height
    Caster/camber plates
    LCAs and PHB
    GMMG - James....
Complete interior bath with new carpet/headliner and so on
    Paint!

Sure I'll sell it, $1800 and I'll throw in a new tail light and bumper cover!

Long term? Just have fun with the car. The previous owner was actually very good with maintenance so all the shocks/brakes/fluids/tires are new. The paint was killed in Arizona but the bottom of the car is dry and rust free. Plus despite the miles you don't get the blue oil puff on start up and it doesn't leak oil so I'm curious to see how long it goes.

$1800 thats tempting from the pictures for sure. I would love to find a deal on a car like that, granted 305 isnt my first choice (I just sold one of those lol).

        Good luck with it!

Couldn't get a 5-speed 350 from the factory. I'm fine with 305's, good luck with your search!

          Hurst shifter on it's way....

                Hey Mike,
I did sell the S/C car about a month before my wedding so no I won't be building something like that again in the near future. I'm going to put some fun suspension items on the Formula and just have fun driving it. The manual transmission makes a huge difference in these cars! The body is nice enough that I could do a resto-mod down the road but I'd like to see how long the stock running gear lasts before I tear into it. One more oil change and it's at 200k miles on a stock motor/trans/rearend.

                PS
The Hurst shifter showed up today; a thing of beauty.

                  Update:
Interior is all out save for the drivers seat, ready for some sound/thermal mat and new carpet.

Installed the Hurst shifter; very easy and straightforward installation. Nice product too! Shift throws are longer than I expected but still much shorter than stock and certainly feel more precise.

Put two "front" wheels on the back so I can rotate tires without taking them off the rims. Not sure I'm as big a fan of this look on Formula's as I am on TA's.

Got a couple of quotes for paint: one for 1k with all the body work and one for 5k....guy could have just told me he didn't want to do it...
