So i want to use the sts turbo on my car, stock 305, 5speed but not sure how much boost i will be able to run safely without blowing anything, does anyone know?

I think 5-7lbs would be a pretty safe bet
    Doing less with more

I don't mean to ruin your goals/intentions but It would probaly be cheaper and less of a headache to build a higher performance 350 or 383.
but I would agree in stock form 5 lbs sounds about right. http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/in...topic=140853.0

I would love to add a turbo to my car as I have a few upstairs but the truth is I don't have forged parts and my compression is high for a boosted application 10.25:1.

Thanks for the help, and would probably be easier building a 350 but then again, i would need a different trans, cuz the t5 is kinda garbarge lmao

What is your power goal? A 350 TPI has marginal power over a 305. You put a turbo on a 305 and you will be in the same spot breaking a T5 as you would had you swapped a 350.

Lets's say you upgrade the T5 to the new TR6060 or a T56 Magnum, you will be replacing the rear end shortly...been there done that.

I agree with matt on this one. If you plan on doing any hp mods you would be well to upgrade the trans/rearend first that way your not breaking everything behind the motor. Unfortunately doing so is not cheap but it will save you money and headaches in the future. Just a thought.

And another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

                            My .02

                            Suspension first:
Weld subframe connectors in to fix the t-top flex.
Replace LCA's, panhard, torque arm in the rear (made a huge handling difference on my car)
BMR has a nice front coil-over setup but look for a hollow sway bar. BMRs solid sway bars are heavy (Strano Performance has hollow bars)

Think about brakes, C4 J55 are pretty inexpensive

                            Rear End:
The Borg Warner 9-bolt is fairly strong but hard to find parts for.
The completely stock 10-bolt in my car (2.73 gears too) went 12.2 before it started to vibrate from a worn pinion crush collar.

You can build a 10-bolt and weld the axle tubes as I did (use nickle rod), but you'll be at half the cost of a Moser 9inch without the strength or warranty of the Moser.

After the chassis/suspension/rear end are good to handle more power, then think about a motor. Since you already have a manual you won't need to buy pedals and a T56 swap gets easier. Ask James about his swap and the performance of the LS1 vs. his old 406 Tuned Port motor.

                            OR

If you really just want 300hp, change the TPI setup to a mini-ram. HP = TQ x RPM, so lots of RPM will get you HP. Stock TPI's hate RPMs.
