Trying to. I still haven't heard back from the guy with the parts I need, so I'm looking into other sources.Originally posted by ITSSLOW View Postnice to see you're still working on it.
I talked to my Mom about it, and she actually said the same thing you did (sorta). I know that if I give up on the '93, I'll be disappointed in myself for wasting the time and energy when I could have looked for a different project to invest in in the first place. So, the '93 is becoming a long-term project. I'm going to get it to the point where I can hop on it and ride it anywhere, and look good while doing it.
I did pick up Adam's '01 Gixxer 600, partially because the deal was too good to pass up, and partially because I wanted something I could ride while I'm working on the '93. I just rode it for about 1 1/2 hours. . . I'm sore now. lol
I'm going to buy the parts for the '93 one at a time, as I can afford them. Next paycheck is already mostly spoken for, so I'm not spending much on the bike, but I think I'll pick up the front fork I need, so I can get the front end reassembled. I'm still waiting for the tank to get here in the mail, I should be able to get it running after I get that installed.
I'm not giving up on the bike, I realized I'd be pissed if I gave up on it too, but I am going to scale back my spending on it for a little while.Nick H.

good luck with finding your parts and getting it running when you get the tank.. I am sure riding one makes it worth while to be working on the other.. little reward for the work so to speak99 Buick Regal GS- New DD

I already love it! I rode it home from the meeting with Adam to pick it up, it is so powerful. It was plenty of fun just going the speed limit the whole way home. Very responsive, it accelerates quickly, the gears all engaged flawlessly, the brakes were the only problem. The back brakes weren't working, and the front brake lever was binding up and causing some unpredictable front brake behavior. . . Got it fixed with a rag, some PB Blaster, and a lot of simulated "braking". lolOriginally posted by ITSSLOW View PostYou'll love that 2001! I had an '01 600. Man was that thing sweet!

Yep. The '01 needs a few things, but nothing too terribly expensive (besides the plastics). It's going to be SO rewarding to take a break from working on the '93 to take the '01 for a spin around town. I just can't wait until the '93 is to the point where I have to make that tough decision as to which bike I want to ride today. lolOriginally posted by Gottork View Postgood luck with finding your parts and getting it running when you get the tank.. to what Tom said... I would love to pick up a running bike for cheap. I had one back in the day but had to get rid of it, I never got my endorsement either. What did you pay for the 01?

Yeah, Adam is a MIFBody member, he had the bike listed for sale here, but nobody showed any interest. I asked him last week if he still had it, I was just going to help him sell it. I asked him how much he wanted for it, and I thought to myself, "Damn, I can pick this up!"Originally posted by ITSSLOW View PostWho's Adam? Was the bike for sale on here?
Let me put it this way, I paid less for the running, driving '01 with 2 helmets, a riding jacket, a bike stand, and a rear seat cowl (in addition to the seat) than what I have into the non-running '93 750 so far. THAT'S why I'm thinking of selling the '93, because it's a money pit, and I just didn't realize it until I started buying parts for it. I have a close friend that wants to buy it from me, I'm thinking of selling it to him, because he's local, he knows bikes, and I would be helping him finish it and get it on the road. Not to mention, he and I go riding together all the time, so I would be able to ride the '93 once we finish it, and I won't have to put several hundred dollars more into it.Nick H.

What kind of price are you looking for? Best thing to do is look for bikes that are slightly higher in price than what you can spend, and try to work something out with the seller. Some people aren't willing to budge on the price, but there are folks out there that are desperate for the cash, they will usually drop a bit more on the price. I got a good deal on the '01 because Adam was trying to help me out, I'll never find a deal like that again. The '93 needs quite a bit of work (which means money), so it was already pretty cheap. Keep looking around Craigslist and the local classifieds, as well as online forums based in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana, you should be able to find a deal.Originally posted by Darrenscamaro View Postpics of the 01? No pics yet of the '01, besides the one from Adam's "For Sale" thread and the others he emailed to me. Here's one to show what it looks like.

The friend that I was thinking of selling the '93 to offered me a pretty sweet deal for the bike. . . I'm seriously considering it. I'd be helping him to do most of the work to get it on the road, and we already ride together all the time, so I would be able to ride the bike once in a while. I'm not sure though, once I get it running, all bets are going to be off. I'm pretty sure that once I pass that hurdle, I'm going to be working my tail off to get it on the road. I'm going to work on getting it running next week, I'm just waiting for the new fuel tank to arrive. I'll have it installed the day it arrives, assuming it includes a working petcock. If it doesn't include the petcock, I'm going to look at alternatives to the stock unit. I'm going to make some calls to some junkyards to locate the rest of the parts I need, the guy that has the parts bike I was going to get them from hasn't returned any of my calls or emails, so I need to find an alternative source of parts.Nick H.

I wound up trading the pile of parts that was the GSXR to someone I know for a running, driving '83 GS750 Katana. I wanted to keep the Gixxer, but after I found out that it had a cracked head and was leaking oil as badly as it was, I realized it was too much of a project. It's in much better shape than the Gixxer was, it doesn't need much mechanically besides an oil change, tune up, carbs cleaned and synced, and a new rear tire.
EDIT: Here's a pic of the '83. It appears to have GSXR fairings on it, but we aren't sure what year they are from. I'm working on getting some gloss black and silver paint, I'm going to repaint it after I get the mechanical issues sorted out.
