Selling one of my stock sets of rims this week. I should be getting paid today or tomorrow. Between my paycheck and the rims selling, I should have enough to get everything I need to get the bike on the road. I'm just hoping there isn't more needed. . . If I were to part out the bike right now, I'd be able to sell the motor alone for what I have into the bike. I was seriously thinking about that yesterday, I could part out this bike and pick up a newer on for $1,000-$1,500 that needs less work, and be ahead of the game. . . I've got a lot of work into this one so far though, so I think I'm going to see it through. If there's something else wrong with the bike that prevents it from being ridden, I'll probably go that route, but for now, I'm going to stick it out and hope to be riding by the end of next week. If the bike's up and running by the Meet and Greet, I'll probably still be able to make it!

It's been smoking and making some wierd noises, I don't want to risk catastrophic failure until I figure out what's wrong with it. White smoke at startup (could be just residual effect from the Seafoam treatment a couple weeks ago) and it's making a rattling noise from the back end, and it seems to be making some odd road noise at around 40mph that lead me to believe there's a problem with either be brakes or tires, maybe even the rear end. . . It's a long drive to get the M&G, so if the bike isn't running, I'll either be hitching a ride with someone, or riding the bike out.Originally posted by Darrenscamaro View PostNot bringing the car to the M&G?Nick H.

Friend of mine hooked me up with a spare gas tank from his Bobber project, so I can at least hear the bike run. I'm going to order the new tank and petcock tomorrow after I sell one of my sets of rims in the afternoon. I'll be getting all the rest of the parts I need to start riding it next week (forks, headlight, mirrors, turn signals, and brake distribution block. I'm going to do an oil change next week as well, change spark plugs, and oil the chain. Should be good to go after that!
Wish me luck!!Nick H.

After I get it running, I'm going to take the carbs off and tear them down to clean them, shouldn't take more than a day to do that. Probably get that going on during the weekend, if I get it running tomorrow. The bike's been sitting for quite a while, so although it is possible that it won't need it, it's not probable. Most likely is going to need the carbs torn down, bowls cleaned, jets cleaned, etc. I won't know until I get the bike running though. Heck, since I feel like sharing, I'll even take the camera out there and get the first start-up on video for you guys.
Assuming I get the parts I mentioned next week, and the carbs get taken care of this weekend (if needed), I'll be riding it by next weekend. I'm starting to get even more excited than I already was about this project. It'll be nice to say "I brought that bike back from the dead" once it's all done, and I'm sure people are going to notice it, it's a pretty unique looking bike already. How many flat black naked sport bikes do you see everyday? I haven't seen any. . .
Here is what I'm basing my project on, I've gotten most of my ideas from this bike. I think it looks amazing, by far the meanest looking street bike I've ever seen.

I only did it out of necessity (PO laid the bike down, destroyed both side plastics), but seeing what people do with these things got me interested, and the "naked sport bike" look has really grown on me. I may eventually buy the side and lower plastic fairings for it, but I kind of like it the way it is. Plus, those fairings are expensive, so that's not going to happen for a while.Originally posted by ITSSLOW View PostLove it! I love when people strip down sport bikes like that.Nick H.

I like it so much I'm buying a buddies early 90's Katana for $300 because he doesn't want to fix plastics but I'm not going to need them anyways. I'm going to be tearing them all off, putting on a round headlight GS-500 headlight/gauges and blacking the whole thing out.2005 Yamaha R6

I'm going to stick with the stock gauges, because they really aren't too large. I will eventually upgrade to a digital speedometer (like the newer GSXR's). I'm thinking of getting a single round headlight, but I was also considering a pair of stacked rectangular ones with small LED turn signals on the sides of the mount. . .Originally posted by ITSSLOW View PostI like it so much I'm buying a buddies early 90's Katana for $300 because he doesn't want to fix plastics but I'm not going to need them anyways. The gauges in that Katana are molded into a cluster. If you remove the head light shrouding then the cluster REALLY sticks out. I've seen people on Katriders just basically bolt on the stock gauges and headlight off a GS500Originally posted by 93formulalt1 View PostI'm going to stick with the stock gauges, because they really aren't too large. Gas tank was ordered this afternoon, hopefully it will arrive next week. Trying to get in contact with the guy selling me the rest of the parts I need, he's pretty hard to reach. Probably meet up with him middle of next week, and I should have the bike reassembled by the weekend.Nick H.
