  • [Project] Thirdgen LS1 Head And Cam Swap

Well I have been working on my car this last winter and into this spring and looks like it might be going into the summer. Last summer was the first year I got my car back together, so I figured, why not pull it all back apart and start over again, kinda. In the quest for more power and looking for a quicker destruction of the 7.5 inch heavy duty rear end…..let’s put a bigger cam and a nicer set of heads on that ls1

So the engine creation is as follows:
Cartex Stage 2X ported and milled 243 heads with 921’s
    Comp XER 230/236 .615/.620 On 113
Slp Timing chain and Oil pump
LS7 Lifters and ls2 Lifter Trays
    Hardened 7.350 Pushrods
    Yella Terra 1.7 Rockers
    Racetronix 38Lb Injectors
    Had on last year:
    LS6 PCV cover
    Under drive pulley,
    Weiand intake mti TB
    160 T-stat

I am hoping to be able to get a fast 92 set up if I can afford it. I also had the hawks stainless swap headers and y-pipe jet hot coated in the steering extreme, It came out perfect and hopefully it will help with the under hood temps. Also got a tick clutch master cylinder that, I am going to try to make fit a thirdgen. Few other things going on, heres a few pictures and I am sure there will be few more to come.

When I put the valve train together first I check ptv clearance, lots of room left, measured pushrod length came up with 7.300 inches with a solid checker lifter installed so ad the .50 for preload, 7.350 pushrod. Did a rocker arm pattern check on the valve steam, no shimming of the rocker arms required, the pattern came out on the center of the steam and narrow.

Party!!!! I got more work done on the car. Engine is back in, reinstalling everything. Rewired the fuel pump, no more crank for an hour. I also installed a racetronix fuel pump hot wire kit. I ran all the wires for the gauges I am putting in the car and anther relay for a second cooling fan. The inside wiring I still have to take care of………

I also got the fully redesigned big ass Tick Performance aftermarket clutch master cly installed. So this thing is huge compared to a stock 4th gen master. So how does it fit in a car that was never made for a t56 clutch hydraulics, surprisingly well. The angle the rod comes out the cly and to the pedal is better then before. Just some redesigning my inside brackets and it fits.

I’ll get some better pictures of the engine back in the car this week end, hopefully I can start it this week end. But it looks like I might not be driving the car for a while….more to come on that
