  • [Project] 12.99 or bust!

Well after several disappointing passes at the track with my new found v8 power last year, we need to upgrade.

The 5.3 camaro will go 12.99 this year, hell or high water!

Sooo, that being said, we need to shave a good second off the 1/4 times to be sure we get there.

    Plans include the following....
After market lid - I really cant believe I went to all the trouble to put a whole new motor and trans in, and left the crappy stock air lid assembly.
Need to get, if you have one, PM me.

Ls6 intake - Brand spanking new, will all the goodies included, rail, injectors, TB, sensors, etc. Already have, and picked it up for a what some people pay just for used intakes.

Stall converter - Mike hooked me up last year with an 11in converter and a *****en 4L60e with all the fixins, just payed him a visit yesterday to pick up his latest creation. A 9.5in 3600 stall converter. Check out this purple monster!

Suspension Mods - I had a wicked problem with wheel hop, like most of you have probably never even seen anything this bad, EVERYONE who went for a ride in my car, thought it was going to explode. It scared the shit out of everyone, including me. Made launching a *****, and even day to day driving was bothersome. I didnt like how "flexible" the car felt either compared to my neighbors vettes, so I bought some goodies to help remedy that problem as well.

Installed control arms last friday and man what a difference, havent had a single wheel hop issue yet! Best money spent on the car in a LONG time!

Sound - The initial setup after the engine swap was pacesetter headers and ory to polished stainless slp dual/dual. While it sounded good, it was to quiet, next to other cars I seriously couldn't tell mine was running. I like having a quiet car for late night stuff or when I just dont feel like it, but I love the sound of a loud exhaust, so I got a DMH electric cutout and stainless cutout pipe. Apparently I REALLY like the sound of it, because since its been installed for a week now, ive only closed it once, lol.

Valvetrain - While nothing in this section is 100% yet, my plan is this. A Thunder Racing CheaTR cam with dual springs, new chain, and hardened pushrods. This is my ultimate goal, I REALLY want to do this cause the car just falls on its face north of 4800 - 5k, and really leaves me lacking down the track. But I just dont want to do the work or spend the $. Chances are though, it will be a cammed car by M&G time.

Thats all for now, updates will come soon as the converter is going in tomorrow morning. Im excited!

Nice man.. Should get you into the 12's.. I used to have bad wheel hop, couldn't shake it(pun intended) until I installed my Chassis mount torque arm.

That will definately get you there. I'd suggest LCA relocation brackets if you don't have them yet...it eliminated my wheel hop.

Wouldn't I need the new front cover and adapter harness?

Why do you want a cheaTR cam Spencer? There are many other options that are going to make a bit more power than that ancient grind :]

It was the CheaTR v3. Their new one I guess. Just has good driveability, I do a ton of highway miles and it seemed like it would do what I wanted. I dont want a big crazy loppey idle, which is why I was first considering the newer ls6 cams, but figured Id be better going with something a bit bigger for all the trouble.

Driveablity is about 95% in the tune. You have a good tuner so I wouldn't worry. Plus cheaTR cams are made to work well with stock manifolds which you don't have.

I'm dissappointed to not see TIRES on the list. You know that converter is only going to be complemented by a nice set of drag radials, then you'll see 12s all day long
