yes brian, thats the hole it was leaking from, and ryan's right, its just a little pipe thread plug, i just had to take the cyl head off because it covers up just enough of that hole so i cant get that plug in there, and yes, oil was pouring out of there, 1qt every 5sec of cranking or so? i never really noticed it either until this but now i bet you i wont over look it again..
. and that is something the shop took out, along with all other plugs, when they did my 4bolt work so they could get the block cleaned out. they put all new stuff in just not those two oil ones, i guess its not 100% their fault though, he dosnt know which one im going to use for oil press/temp, maybe im going to use both, and also i deff should have looking a little better instead of just assuming that plug is in there

alright well she starts and runs, a little rich still i think, but she runs, however i think im hearing a knock from cyl 2? maybe others but im not sure if its a problem or if its just because everything's forged..ive had people tell me forged internals will trip knock sensors so im not sure... also, shes running pretty warm..220/230 but for the time i ran it, it seemed stable at that temp..before it gets to that temp i dont recall hearing that knocking tho...
any ideas? am i having issues or am i just paranoid?< Black Betty >

I would be a little more concerned about that, forged internals aren't something that I would blame knock on. The temp is very high did you try purging the system of any air pockets? How is the oil pressure?Doing less with more

yeah i figured as much. is the knock from high temps then?
oil pressure is good, i havnt gotten rpms over 2k so i dont know about that but idle is around 25-30psi.
i tried to purge the coolant but not sure if im 100% doing it right since now i dont have the heater core or oil cooler...ive just been un screwing the brass fitting on the neck near the thermostat while its running..< Black Betty >

I usually just let the car run with the radiator cap open and refill as it goes down. squeezing the top hose usually helps to get it down as well but it heats up real fast. knocking shouldn't happen no matter how hot it gets, unfortunately knocking is never a very good sign usually indicates a spun bearing.Doing less with more

im not 100% sure its a knock in the first place..and wouldnt my oil pressure be really high if it was a spun bearing? and theres no way it could it be detonation from timing? im still trying to figure out the timing with the opti and my ecu...
and as far as temps...i have two sensors, one in each bank, my right bank is about 160-170, left back is the hot one.< Black Betty >

oil pressure is usually really low if a bearing is spun. Timing could cause the motor to detonate and in that case just as well you wouldn't want to run the motor any longer until the issue is addressed. If one bank is running hotter than the other I'd check the coolant level and the oil. Could be a number of things but it either has a bad pocket there or something is not good. Those temps themselves can cause damage.Doing less with more

how'd you find out you had a spun bearing? just took it back apart?Originally posted by ThreeHonks View Postwhen my motor spun a bearing it had great oil pressure! It is prbly valvetrain noise, re lash your valves
im not running the engine anymore just incase, im probably going to relash the valves but that will have to wait till tomorrow at the earliest and since i have an electric water pump ill pull the cap and just run the water pump for a while i guess. ill probably drain some of the oil when i do the valves just want to see if theres any shavings or what not...< Black Betty >

Mine heat seized when I spun two bearings and then when I drained the oil it had a nice golden sheen. I don't really remember if mine was noticably knocking or not.- Brian Meissen

I notice in your cardomain that you have KB hyper pistons. FWIW, those will piston slap pretty loudly on occasion. What tuning did you do? With that TB and Cam, its going to need a LOT of tuning. Your timing tables being off could cause your temp to be that high, thermostat, air pocket, the possibilities are endless. Best of luck, Eric L

Wow, why the FAST system for such a mild set up? I could understand for future builds to come, but (sorry) he seems kinda green to be diving in this hard. Thats a lot of mechanical (motor), and tuning to tackle for anyone of average mechanical skill. I hope it all turns out good man. Nothing personal, sounds like a kick ass setup, but deffinately not simple, lol. Good luck brother. Eric L
