  • [Project] HiMiPoncho rises from the ashes

I know I haven't been the most active person on this forum, but I plan to keep this thread up dated. Just short of a year ago my car suffered damages that pretty much did the stock engine in. After driving the car for 20 or so years as a DD I decided to park it and get a new(er) car. I've been collecting parts over the last year and am ready to start my build. It won't be ready for the Meet and Greet but it will be on the road before snow hits.

Over this last week I have gutted the interior, pulled the stock engine/trans, ripped out the rear end and suspension, and sand blasted/painted the stock suspension I plan on reusing. Next week the body is going to the body shop for a few small repairs. Surprisingly, the floor boards and rest of the body are in amazing shape for a 22 year old car, let alone one that was a DD for 20+ years.

My plan right now is to build a serious street car. I plan on taking care of the suspension, installing a rebuilt trans, and interior. The car is going to be right on the line of needing a cage or not so I'm leaving it out for now. My best friend owns a body shop in Cadillac and is doing all my body work and paint. Not sure of the color yet but I'm thinking the pearl white off the Caddys.

Tom (ITSSLOW) is probably going to be building my engine. The car came with a 305 stock but I purchased a stock, 4 bolt, 350 block of Craigslist. Right now it's actually a complete engine but I will tear it down, send it out, and then he'll build it. I have a lot of the parts for it including pistons, crank, heads, intake, and headers. Right now I need pushrods, rockers, and rings before it can be built. I'll pick up the nonessentals like a carb, air cleaner, valve covers, and plug wires later.

I have a ton of pics from tear down that I'll post up later. I need to get back to work right now. Sucks working 3rd shift but at least I have a job in this damn state!!!!

Here is the engine Tom built me. It's a 383 stroker that Tom estimates at 450hp! He said the cam in it is pretty tame and we could swap it later if I wanted something better. I wanted an animal but I want it to be completely reliable. I'll let him chime in with the complete specs but its a 383, 4-bolt, vortec heads with a mild port and polish, eagle crank/rods, diamond pistons, edlebrock intake, eldebrock carb, double roller timing chain, Comp camshaft and all valvetrain components, 1.6 roller rockers, polished valve covers, and a high flow oil pump.

The engine was torn down in about 3 hours, sent out for a week, and assembled in probably 7 hours. I had to rebuild the carb too. I'm really pleased how it all turned out. The engine has the best of everything and had to be one of the easiest builds I've done. I didn't run into a single snag!

Kyle, what's that engine in the background?

That is a 355 I was given by a buddy. Spun a bearing and even though I had no use for it, it has some nice parts on it that I can take off and sell. Could probably make $500 between the intake, timing cover, timing gears, distributor, and everything else. The block is probably junk though, right?
