  • [Project] Project Turdrocket!

Well as some of you may know I've revived the Camaro project and I have a LOT of plans for it, including my most recent commitment to one of 10 Powerdyne supercharger bracket sets our sponsor GVVS is producing.

One of the main functions of the car will be to act as a prototype slut for the business, which will be expanding it's product range significantly in the near future. The other function will be as my personal weekend warrior/trackday car once I pick up another vehicle to DD and tow the Camaro to and from the race tracks.

Stage one, which occurred last week, was to do some weight reduction via a full AC delete, which allowed me to drop 35lbs from the front of the car. I also ditched my trusty old halo headlights for some much more tasteful whistler modded stock lamps.

Next, and in no definite order is the suspension and supercharger. I still don't know which one is my priority.

    Suspension mods:
    Strano racing springs
    Bilstein shocks (Strano valved)
UMI LCAs and adjustable Panhard bar
    LCA relocation brackets
    1" wheel spacers (rear)

As for the supercharger I will probably set it up for 6psi non-intercooled initially, get the base tune down, then upgrade to 9+psi intercooled somewhere down the road. Eventually I want to get 300whp.

Once I have another vehicle (looking for a Sierra/Silverado 1500) the real fun will start. I'll be fully stripping out the interior from the drivers seat back and doing some hardcore weight reduction. An 8-point cage, racing seat, and 6-point harness will follow.

I have some pretty lofty goals, and some of them probably won't be done until next spring (cage and safety equipment mostly), but I'm very intent on finishing this. I've been itching to get back on a track since I stopped racing karts competitively, so I'm hoping open track days and occasional Auto-X will be enough to satisfy my craving.

    Wish me luck!!! 8-O

    Tim, congrats man!

I love the name, by the way.

Let me know if you ever need a hand wrenching or what not!

    I look forward to updates!

I'm planning on going to the dyno day, which will probably get me a somewhat embarrassing 180-ish whp. I'll be keeping everyone posted every step of the way! Weight reduction is going to be my friend on this build.

I'm trying to decide if I want to have my friend tune it for me for the baseline, or just run it stock. He'd probably run a 93octane tune on it for me if I asked, it's just a matter of if I want to take the time to do it, and get the <5hp out of it.

That AC compressor is a heavy little guy, and the condenser isn't exactly light either. Plus it got rid of 2 pulleys and some extra belt length. It hadn't worked since I bought the car anyway, so I didn't sacrifice anything by removing it.
