Haha, it's getting closer. Once I get all the parts I'll take a week off from work and do the cam swap, paint the engine bay and undercarraige with POR 15, and then hopefully do the install.- Brian Meissen

remove the lifter keeper and see if there is any sludge under there, that is first place it will collect. (might as well remove the lifters and soak them in oil too).
Engine looks really good though, you doin some headwork or what??

Yeah, I'll do that to see what it looks like. I'm still on the fence on whether or not I want to buy new lifters. Part of me thinks I should buy it just for the peace of mind that I have new lifters, but the other part of me thinks I can use the money else where and stick with stockers.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View Postremove the lifter keeper and see if there is any sludge under there, that is first place it will collect. Haha, yeah, it was mostly a spur of the moment thing. I was content with just removing the intake manifold and then my dad's all "Hey want to take the heads off?" So I said, "Sure why not?" And yeah.Originally posted by Xx573v3xX_Z28 View Postnice but i would of cleaned the block with all of that crap on then dissembled for easier clean up
Now that the heads are sitting downstairs, I just need the spring compressor and then I can replace all the stuff in the heads until the rest of my parts come.

Depends on how much it'd cost.

depends how much you wanna do.Originally posted by meissen View PostDepends on how much it'd cost.
A lloyd elliot or advanced induction job would be north of 800 bucks probably.
Dave at engine craft on the other hand could deck and pocket port for a couple hundred. He did that to mine plus an intake valve job and assembly for just under $400 i think.
Make sure you at least check your valve guides for wear to see if they need to be redone. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with just putting it back together, you could use an impala head gaskets to bump compression up slightly.-Joel
