  • M1-302 Mobil filter. Listed for H2 Hummer I believe. Anyway, it's longer and I have been running it for years.

About oil, some collector car book at Barnes and Noble said to buy nothing after SL rated oil. SM and newer has less Zinc which is better for the environment but decreasing the amount causes increased engine wear.

Sorry to hear you have to wait till Monday. That's got to be painful.

The reasoning behind that book is because older engines, flat tappet mostly, NEED zinc. The result can be catastrophic otherwise, new motors (roller) dont really "need" it.

As long as it's still on to start for Monday, I'll come by after work.

          • Speaking of GC, just went by autozone and picked up a sweet deal. 5 quarts of any fully synthetic castrol oil and a k&n filter for $25. I picked up some GC 0w-30, and ill be back tomorrow to get some more for the DD. Deal runs through april 8th.

              • OK it looks like the V8 transmission crossmember is identical to the v6 but the hole is elongated for the v8 crossmember. That's where my problem was - the v6 crossmember hole for the transmission mount (directly in the center) is circular whereas the v8 is elongated. We elongated the energy suspension transmission mount's holes because the metal is thinner.

And damn is it easier to lift the body off the kframe when removing the engine than it is to drop the body onto the kframe.

                Not in this order, but...

We lowered it and then realized the wiring harness and heater hose tubes were not ran correctly so we had to raise it back up for that.

We lowered it and then realized the transmission dipstick was pushed against the windshield cowl (we had to route it over the valve covers) so we raised it and fixed that.

We lowered it and then realized the steering knuckle was kinked so we raised it and fixed that.

We lowered it and then realized the torque arm bracket was in the way of the torque arm and the exhaust hanger bracket was cocked at a 45* angle (we ditched that all together), so we had to raise it up and get rid of the brackets to get it to work.

But yeah, we still have a few electrical connections to figure out (wheel sensors) and then the radiator and connections for that. Plus I can't find the damn bolt for the battery tray/coolant overflow.

                • So I found a cheap-o breather filter to throw in, hence first pics.

We went to route the spark wires in the stock location and it flat out wouldn't work. The headers were just way too close to the spark plug wires for my comfort, so we went the OTVC route. Honestly, I think it looks great and it doesn't hide the valve covers as much as I thought it would - plus it's real nice and organized.

If you look really close you can see the fuel lines hanging down still, gotta mount them under the windshield cowl.

And I have tons of clearance for the headers.

                        • I got a lot of work to do on the passenger side. There's a mess of wires that go along the battery tray, and then the !pass wire mod I undid the wire wrap when we pulled the v6 out. I'll have to buy new wrap and put it on so it will look OK.

                          • Any reasoning to undoing the pass side wire wrap? Is it different for the lt1 cars?
