  • [Project] Red Alert's New Eyes

So, unfortunately, we spent all weekend working on the basement's kitchen that we didn't get around to working on this, but it'll be finished in time for Indy.

As most of you might remember, back in April of 2007, I was in an accident that totaled the car. Thankfully, I was able to rebuild the vehicle back to better than before, but we ran into a snag. The grill was damaged. I ordered another grill, but DG Motorsports was having a hard time fulfilling my order because the company who made the fog lights they used in the grill had discontinued making the fogs. So, they gave me the option to wait on ordering the grill or they would give me a discounted rate for having no fog lights. I took the latter of the two, and the grill quickly arrived. In a rush to have the vehicle back together, my dad and I found some cheap e-bay fog lights that would fit in the small holes in the grill and we mounted 'em right in.

Alas, you get what you pay for, and the cheap fog lights quickly broke. So, it was time to purchase higher quality fog lights that would not break so quickly.

    And here they are:

    Hella Micro DE Fog Lights:

Those are going into the Carbon Fiber grill for the fog lights, Rolo. I think you're talking about the headlights?

Hella sweet fog lights thanks to hella lamps! I'm excited as all hell, these fog lamps use the H3 bulb and come with a decently sized wiring harness... makes me think that I could probably drive my car with the fogs alone again and not need headlights.

I could've done that on my Camaro, since it had aftermarket fog lights (Pilot Automotive), and they were brighter than my low beams. I always drove with my fogs on as well as my headlights.

Get those suckers in there Brian, I wanna seeeeee!

Trust me, I wanted to stay up all night and work on this but alas other responsibilities took over. I really was hoping to work on this over the weekend (I even paid $30 more just to ensure they'd arrive on Friday instead of Monday [today]) but our kitchen tiling project took WAAAAAAAAAAY longer than expected.

No, my dad worked on the basement yesterday instead of the grill. We have two things to figure out

                            1. How to mount these moderately heavy and really deep fog light housings into the grill
                            2. Wiring harness is a lot heavier than the stock wiring for the fogs... they're H3 bulbs only 55w, so I don't know if I have to run a new harness or if I can just use the stock harness...

When I got home today I removed the grill from the car and got the old crappy fog lights out. My dad's going to try and figure out how to mount them tomorrow. On a positive note, though, once the old crappy fogs were removed from the grill, I put the new fogs in backwards and it fit perfectly.
