I've been considering this since the 70-73 cars are starting to jump in price. You can pick up late 70's cars for dirt cheap still that need work. Just need to find a solid body to start with.
Yeah I know it's the same basic body. That would be the only way I would do it is if I changed the rear over too, which really the only thing I'd have to change is the tailights. If I did it, wouldn't be for many years as I won't have the money to pull it off for awhile.

My goal right now is to just get it drivable this year, so I can enjoy it. If I can make it look decent enough to drive, I don't care if it takes me 20 years to finish it, I'll do a little at a time as I can afford it. Which by that time, I'll probably start over with it, lol.

    • Well, thought I'd give you guys a little update as I've been doing some work lately and while my time working on it is sporadic and in short stints (usually while my daughter is napping while my wife is at work) I am however taking every opportunity I get to work on the car. Had to do some cleaning and re-organizing in the garage so I had room too. So I've got some parts laid out, making some decisions, and I've got a pretty clear cut direction decided on somethings now which I will divulge more as I get to them.

My goal is still to have this done in time to get a road test in before the M&G so it is ready to rock for that. The other thing is, I am going to be selling some extra parts to fund this build, as it is the only way I will be able to finance the project. One thing I did do a few years ago is amass a fair amount of spare parts, most of which I'll probably never use.

Keep in mind, this is a budget build (because I'm so broke I can't pay attention right now) and my goal is to get the car on the road so I can enjoy it this summer and every summer from here on and do major repairs/upgrades each winter 1 at a time as finances and time allow, all the while having it back together in the spring each year and hopefully in a few years it will look as good as some of the other cars here.

With all that said, here's a pic of some recent work cleaning and painting, its not done, but it's getting there.

Don't even know yet, they are at my parent's place in storage, I gotta dig it all out see what I got (don't even remember for sure anymore) and then decide.

Thanks! It'll either be really cheap paint from somewhere or rattle can yes. The body is last on my list at the moment so we'll see.

I've seen a couple whole bodies coated in the stuff...probably makes sense if you're really serious about off-roading...
