Sounds like the deal worked out well for you on the old motor. BTW Jasen....ditch the Mobile 1 unless your are planning on putting in an additive.
Well that's his choice, he didn't want much more than that, he got what he wanted and was willing to pay for it.

Yeah, I plan to run Royal Purple in it. Although looking at it at the store earlier this week, I'm not sure which one to run because most of the normal weights of it have the "API" seal on them so I'm not sure if its' any better. What do you run?

I usually run Lucas too, didn't realize it had that stuff in it.

      Looks good Jasen!!

Whats wrong with Mobil 1? My car came with it and has had it since I bought the car...

I believe its lacking additives which prevent excessive wear of flat tappet cams.

That's it. The API standards have changed to reduce the amount of a Zinc based additive that helps form a barrier if you will between metal parts by adhering to the metal surface preventing metal to metal contact. So older flat tappet cams because of the sliding that occurs between the 2 surfaces 1 on the cam lobe and 1 on the bottom of the lifter need this or they wear away very quickly. James gives credit to this being the demise of his old motor last year. So if you have a flat tappet cam motor you need to run an off road oil that isn't API certified. Here's the article that was posted on it if you want more info.

Not to get off topic... but I read the articles and I surmise that that doesn't include my car to the extent of older vehicles. I have an LS1 in my vehicle which is a roller setup not flat tappet. Should I add the EOS to my next oil change or is my 10w-30 M1 Synthetic still appropriate?

Exactly, no you should be fine in your LS1 because it is a roller motor.

I wish I did. Very soon I hope. After this week things should start settling down. It's been a busy crappy year for me and my family. Unfortunately my garage has been full of some things that had to be temporarily stored so I hope to have that situation rectified soon and start having some fairly regular updates.

However, that's not to say I haven't thought about this. I have been making plans and am toying with not doing the temporary paint job and actually painting it right the first time. So, things are in the works, just don't have the means yet.

Thanks for being interested! Bear with me everyone I'm getting there!!!

Not on the car, got a couple small projects I'm working on to get out of the way that are in the garage so I have room to work on the car. So, I am getting there.

I have an announcement, there was the start of progress again last night.

Got one of the doors up on sawhorses and put some spot putty on some of the low spots and chips to let it dry overnight. Going to get the motor on the stand next and work on cleaning it up and painting the block.

Pics to come when I have something more to show.
