    There is an update finally!!!!!

Alright, so since my other thread got whored out and since there has been a big lapse in time since anything has been done, I'm starting a new thread. I thought about deleting all the "is it done yet" posts but in the interest of post whoring I just couldn't do it

A comment was made that it would be hard for someone to weed through the actual progress on the other thread with all the post whoring. So, I copied all the actual pics and updates on the car to this thread following this post. Comments, questions, suggestions, criticizing & etc. are welcome, but please keep the whoring out of this thread. However, feel free to whore the old thread all you want! Thanks!!!!

Here's a link to the old thread...

    The first post.......

So, while fishing for somebody with a truck and trailer and time to move it this weekend last week and coming up short, I happened to be talking to an old friend that I hadn't talked to for a couple months and told him that I sold the 99 and he asked if I got the other one moved yet and I said that I hadn't found anyone that could do it this weekend. Well turns out he has a car dolly and had time yesterday. So, we went and dug her out and brought her up to my house from my parents and she now resides in the garage at home so I can begin the "rebirth" if you will.

(the first 3 pics suck a little cause all I had with me was my phone camera) After clearing things out of the way and rolling her out at my parent's....

    On the dolly leaving.....

After putting her in the Garage at my house (these are much higher resolution taken with my digital cam)......

So now the question is where to start. I know the first place is washing the 7 years of dust and dirt off it!!! Stay tuned for updates..........

First had to clean the garage up so I could do some work. Here is the after pic.

Looking at parts that I had available and what I could get done in the time I had. While not a major issue, still a major inconvenience I decided where to start. Since I've owned the car it's never had working trunk springs, I've used this 2X4 for years to hold it open.

I stumbled onto a car being parted out by a member on another board a couple months ago and picked up some replacement springs.

Removed the trunklid and spring cover panel. 27 year old silicone for the window covering the panel screws is very stubborn #$*%@!!!!!

Found only one spring was broken.

After about an hour of cursing, frustration and some trial and error I got the new one on. Left the good old one in so I have a spare.

      Springs working very well.

Trunklid back on and being held by the springs with NO 2X4!!!!

And just for fun, here's what appears to be a beer bottle screw off cap from an old 40 ounce or something stuck in the windshield defroster vent. Noticed it walking by, thought it was kinda funny.

And here is the Steering wheel that was bought as a gift for me many years ago that I will be putting on it.

          And finally here's the latest.

Last night I picked up my motor. For those that don't know its the original LT1 350 out of a 1971 Corvette Stingray. It was rebuilt about 10 years ago. The crank and rods are still stock but the pistons were upgraded to Kieth Black Hypereutectic pistons with 10:1 compression. The heads are a Brodix Aluminum Street head (Not sure if its this exact one but its along these lines, I'll check them out more this weekend http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku) with 2.02/1.60 valves. All the valves are Manley's. It has Comp's roller tip rocker arms. A flat tappet Comp 270 H Cam with hydraulic lifters. Also right now sitting on it is an Edelbrock Performer intake and a Carb Shop tuned Rochester Quadrajet. The motor has about 10k miles on the rebuild and up until 2 weeks ago was running in the car, even got driven to St. Ignace and back last month. I'll get some more in depth pics when I have time but here you guys go, these were taken last night after I got it home. There hasn't been an engine sitting in that frame in about 8 years!!!!

Thanks, Hoping to get it on the stand soon and do some cleaning and repainting. IT will definitely look a little different when I am done with it. Those vette valve covers won't be on there.

The wife asked last night that if it would really take much now that I had a motor to put it together. Yeah, it would but if I had a couple weekends and some help with no distractions I could probably do it, however, I don't wanna just slap it together.

The only holes that aren't taped are the water jackets, but yeah that's a good idea. Don't want any water getting in there either,

Yeah, it should have every bit of 300 hp. But I've no idea for sure.

What do you guys think, should I go with 1-5/8" primaries or 1-3/4" on the headers? It's a street motor that won't see much over 5k probably but with the manual tranny I'm thinking the 1-3/4" ones will help with RPM's and hopefully not sacrifice to much low end torque.

go with 1 3/4" thats what im running on my LT1 1 3/4 is actually middle of the road. Hooker super comps are usually 1 7/8.

Yeah, I'm probably just going to get the regular Hooker Comps which I think are 1-3/4".

Yeah, I know they will flow plenty, I'm just worried that they will flow to much, sacrificing a lot of low end torque. Then again, he was running it with 1-7/8" primaries and it ran fine so I guess I should have no problem with 1-3/4".

1-3/4, definately. That is a SWEET freakin' motor there. A Vette guy will give his eyeteeth for that to restore his 71 LT-1.

They only made 1949 LT-1s in '71, and it was underrated at 330 hp from the factory.

If you make less than 400 at the crank, I'd be disappointed with all the work that's been done to it.

As an aside, DON'T THROW ANYTHING AWAY FROM THAT MOTOR. If you pull the cam out, check the numbers to see if it's an LT-1 cam, etc. If the guy you bought it from has any of the old parts, ask if you can have them.

The valve covers are worth a few hundred bucks to a Corvette guy.

The C3 LT-1s are hotter than a cat on fire right now.
