  • Need a little diag help... maybe.

I'm not sure this is even a huge deal, but a noise started happening today.

It sounds like one of them old school sprinklers... chugging/ticking style... noise seems to be RPM dependent as well.

I can really hear it at low low RPM while in a higher gear. Like 1k RPM in 4th gear while giving it throttle. That puts the guage at about 1psi boost lol. I can't hear it while sitting idle, or revving the engine, the noise may be there, just drown out by the engine. First thought was a leak in the charger piping somewhere. But It seems I'm getting boost at WOT. I haven't tried to get max boost because that would require a serious run, but I can get it up when it has to be. Exhaust leak, you'd think I'd be able to hear it no matter what. Maybe BOV? Maybe not even a problem? I'm lost on this one. And there is no way in hell I can crawl under my car at all.

    Any ideas?

    supercharger?
    procharger?
    turbo charger?

it could be a bearing issue in the charger. or yes possibly a exhaust leak. the only reason I say possible bearing in the charger is because of the low gear and charger starting to work. low mean less engine noise and then running it up to alittle boost would make a charger problem alittle more audible.

      Procharger yes.

It almost sounds like it is coming from the opposite side of the engine bay from where my procharger sits... but I'm always in the car and only hear it out of my window.

That can be a tuff one. See if you can get someone to ride along.

The more I drive it, the more I think it's just the BOV? I'm not losing any boost, in fact, according to my gauge, I was getting 12psi at WOT in 2nd.

There are no driveability issues what so ever, nor loss in power.

Well dropped the car off at a buddies shop last night. Already found one of the exhaust leaks, EGR runner tube on the top of the header. Gonna either cut it off and weld it, or gonna replace the headers all together with a Stainless Works set. 0 EGR provisions on them bad boys. He has them laying around his shop so I can get them at a price.

Big time. He tightened up the exhaust, and did a temp fix on the egr tube so I can still take it on the Gumball rally in 2 weeks. The headers he had still had the EGR crap on them, so he ordered a whole new set for me, as well as a catless xpipe.

Also installing a catch can because of an oil consumption issue. Hopefully this will solve it, and I won't need to re-ring the pistons.
