  • Forget N20! how about just plain O

    So I was thinking (Warning!)

If I understand correctly The main thing that gives you the Umph From N2O is the O, being that its a accelerant (and extremely flammable)......so why cant you just hook up a small air line somewhere in the intake (preferably before the M.A.F), connect a oxygen bottle to it with a metering valve (you can get these from most medical supply stores) and voila! instant horsepower with out all the jets, bottle warmers and so on. The only thing I would do is get a Air/Fuel ratio gauge to make sure you dont lean out the motor. I talked this over with a mechanic buddy of mine and he told me it SHOULD work but to try it on a junk motor first just in case.

N20 cools the incoming charge and makes the air much denser. Its not just the fact that it has oxygen in it.

      n20 itself is not flammable

Maybe not but Raw pure oxygen is extremely flammable

O2 itself is not flammable, it is an accelerant that allows something ELSE to burn much better. I've seen numerous posts on other boards of people thinking they just came up with the greatest idea since sliced bread only to be mercifully ripped to shreds about it.

Ok I just looked it up your right. I was wrong. Pure oxygen is not flammable is just makes everything around it MORE flammable (a.k.a an accelerant like you said) so I had that part screwed up. But even if it wasnt flammable and just an accelerant wouldn't it help the already present fuel/air mixture burn that much hotter and faster and therefore more completely thus making more power?

If you have a hangover, your supposed to be able to take a few breaths of pure oxygen and the hangover is supposed to go away. I've yet to try it out.

Wouldn't more heat make detonation more likely to happen?

problem is oxygen is way to hot... they use it in cutting and welding you would pretty much melt your pistons to the block in a matter of seconds... you could do it im sure but it would only take such small amounts it wouldnt be worth it... no2 also helps use the air already in the cylinder.. not just add to it...

how about this guys a NRT non restrictive turbo? i have a bunch of these air cannons at work used to pass material... or used to blow alot of static free clean air its pretty much a can inside a can with air blown between directing it... it can push quite a bit PSI out of them when hooked to just a air line kinda nuts... i was thinking of rigging an old a/c compressor up to just pump compressed air.. the nice thing is even if it didnt work... it wouldn't slow down the n/a air the motor sucks in cause its just a big tube pretty much... it would just help the air along make it move faster... im tempted to rig one up but want to try it on a beater first... and if i weld the clutches of an a/c compressor it would work pretty much the same as a turbo or super charger just adapting with the rpm of the motor.... but would it make more power then a a/c condenser steals? thats the big question

Yeah, and the oxygen EXPANDS as it heats up! Basically atmosphere in a bottle.

You know, N20 has been around awhile, and there must be a reason that people use it and not just straight O2. I think I'd stick with that.
