  • Powerdyne head unit?

Anybody have a powerdyne head unit, if so what do you think about it? what are the pros and cons that you have had with it? I like the Idea of not changing fluid every three thousand miles, and not having to tie it into the oil system on the car.

I had a custom powerdyne supercharger kit on my 1999 3.8 (before I upgraded to V8). I don't recall for sure, but I only ran it for a summer or two (maybe 6,000 miles?) without issue. If you do a search on this forum you will find my build thread and many details. These are great kits for a little more power at a pretty low cost. Most have good success running 5-7 psi through them (maybe 50 rwhp?). That is what I ran and had no issues at all once the car was tuned and fuel upgrades were performed. Most people say not to run any more PSI than that as the powerdyne superchargers seem to have internal failures under much more stress. Long story short, the car was still a v6 that couldn't keep up with v8's. For the time and money invested, I could have got into a nice reliable v8 that sounds a lot better. I sold the car, distributed the modifications around the country (s/c kit went to Colorado), and used the money to buy my current TA..

If you have any more detailed questions about the install after reading the build threads, shoot me a PM and I'd be happy to help where possible!

Thanks for the info, I will look up the thread for sure! Not trying to beat anything really, just trying to play with it and have fun! As long as it brings a smile to my face when I drive it that's all that really matters!

Like Derek stated for the money verses performance you would be wiser to go v6 to v8 swap. Everyone I know that tried performance gains on v6 eventually sold and/or upgraded to v8. A stock v8 and 6 speed will put a grin instead of a smile on your face.

I know everybody has told me to do the V8 swap but I am not interested in doing that. I'm having just as much fun tweaking on the 6. I just like to modify stuff is all.

Why not do a turbo? Alot of guys make there 3.8 pretty nasty with them.

If you're set on the V6, then turbo it.

powerdyne with a little spray and your car will scoot. The first v6 into the 11s was shirl with a powerdyne and some nitrous. I have a fully built 3.8 with 2 stages of nitrous and all, any questions on building a v6 let me know, been in the v6 scene for years and now in the 5th gen v6 scene
