  • 95 bird 3.4 v6 question

hey guys im very new to the 4th gen stuff so heres what im looking to do.
I bought a 95 conv firebird for my wife to enjoy this summer. it has a 3.4 v-6 in it. the thing runs nice but it just doesnt have the power i desire. Any imput on how i can get another 30-50 hp out of this thing without spending a ton would be great.
also here is another question I do not know if i should post in a different thread or not but
I have a low oil light come on when first started. After I run it and shut if off, it doesnt come back on. now I checked the oil level and it's fine along with oil pressure, is there a known common problem/fix to this problem? thanks in advance.

If you can snag some deals.Junker is the way to go. You wont get much out of the 3.4L with out breaking a little coin. The 3.4 is like a fat kid with asthma. 3400 top end swap would be the way to go. UIM,LIM,Fuel Rail,TB. You can get these from GT Grand Ams. Comps Cam..you know the whole nine yards. Well I wouldnt say whole nine yards because that like the v8 saying. But some work will need to be done to achieve some kind of power.

Comps cam would compliment a top end swap nicely. Theres a guy on fullthrottlev6.com that can custom grind for you.

Even doing this it will still not seem like enough power. Additional power yes, but will still be slower than the Detroit Lions offense putting points on the board.

3500 top end would work also. Malibus are 3500 I think?

All in in.. fullthrottlev6.com is a place you want to sign up on

3.8 is far better. Hence why the 3.4L only lasted 3 years. Could always mini turbo the 3.4 with like 15psi

Pacesetter headers I forgot to mention

but like I said still wont be fast, but if your interested in building it up then everything I mentioned should be on your to do list. Without F.I. you be lucky enough to hit the HP a 3.8 has stock

I think the best bang for the buck would be to throw an LT1 in there. Other than that, headers, intake, cam. What's your budget?

You'll never be happy with it. Toss on a cold air intake, headers, cat back, and do a tune up. I've driven a dead stock 3.4 'bird and when compared to mine which has the mentioned mods there is a noticeable difference. However, it's still slow and to be brutally honest its more fun watching the grass grow than driving the 'maro. You might have some luck with regearing it, but its still going to be dog.

my budget? this is for my wife so next to nothing if possible. if it were mine it would be different. i just want to add a little pep for as cheap as possible so when i do drive it i can atleast be ok with it. like say make it as fast as a fricken sebring convertable would be cool lol.

The best advice for your 3.4 bird. Go get a clay bar kit and good polish and wax, $100.00 spent. Make that baby shine like no tomorrow. Then you'll be proud to drive it and look good. There is no way to make that faster without serious $. So be happy look good always drive 5 miles per under the limit and let everyone think you have a sleeper.

I used to have a 95 3.4 camaro with just an Intake, ported tb & catback .. thing was slow as **** ..
With those mods it was about dead even with mp81's near stock cobalt LT

I mean depending on what you're looking for go with those simple mods and put a 50 shot on top of it like Gottork mentioned.
That's really all you can do to that little motor
