  • My Intercooled PowerDyne Setup

The time has come for me to put together my supercharger setup.

    Parts pics!!

    The lovely BD-11A:

    The usual couplers and T-clamps:

    Here's my mockup part...:

for my 14.5"x4.5"x5" water to air intercooler:

    27"x7"x2" heat exchanger:

    SVT Lightning intercooler water pump:

HP Tuners, Forge BOV, and Ford 42lb/hr green top injectors:

So far, the intercooler parts appear to be fairly high quality parts. The intercooler itself is a fantastic piece of metal. I'm less impressed with the heat exchanger as it came completely painted with silver spray paint (aka bad for heat transfer) which will probably flake right off after a couple heat cycles and rock strikes. My mockup intercooler was a smart move since the intercooler fits perfectly. I'm also very happy with the size of the heat exchanger. I'm going to be cutting up the front of the bumper and placing the heat exchanger there and then covering it up with a black aluminum billet grille.

Charge piping will be done with 16 gauge 2.5" stainless steel T304 piping which I fully intend on polishing to match the intercooler.

The following parts are on order and should be in sometime during the middle of next week:

    928 Motorsports 2.9" (9psi) smooth side pulley (www.928motorsports.com)
GM open element metal IAT sensor and SS T304 bung (www.diyautotune.com)
    2.5" SS T304 piping (www.mandrel-bends.com)

The intercooler parts, couplers, and t-clamps all came from www.frozenboost.com. Super fast shipping and everything to be great in quality.

I'm curious to see how the intercooler setup is going to perform. I know some people in the past have intercooled their PowerDyne setups with an air to air intercooler which ends up creating a massive boost pressure drop. The water to air setup should be able to maintain boost pressure due to the fact that it takes less surface area for water to dissipate the same amount of heat that air does (better thermo-conductivity).

    Stay tuned for more....

good luck, even with intercoolers powerdynes are not known to handle much boost at all. I had purchased my intercooler and had already upgraded the fuel system on my previous powerdyne v6 car, I was ready to install the intercooler and then backed out took off all the supercharger parts and bought a v8. The supercharger sure did wake the car up though. I'm really interested to see what this thing puts out. One day i'd like to build another powerdyne kit for a v6. Did you buy your mounting brackets from my brother (97rs4life) or www.gvperformance.com ? He sold a few kits that were based on the design we custom fabbed up for my old car.

        Very nice!

I was looking at that heat exchanger initially for my Cobalt, but it won't fit under the stock bumper, so I ended up going with a Cobra heat exchanger.

That pump is the same one the Cobalt SSs run, as well as a few other cars.

I most definitely did about a month after you and I chatted about your car on the front page chat. I think there's only 2 out of the 10 kits running at the moment. I'm hoping to be the third.

Mainly because the pressure drop from an air to air intercooler chops off about 2-3psi from a PowerDyne BD-11A. The pressure drop from doing water to air should be well under .5psi.

Looks like it will be a blast! I love it when someone doesn't do the norm and mods a V6. I've wanted to build a highly modified 3.4 for a looonnggg time. I've been apart of the V6 forums longer than any other forum on the net.

Doing with what? Intercooler parts have been shipped back to the place I bought them from. I still have the supercharger and s/c brackets on hand.

I was asking what you were doing with the whole system. It kinda sucks your not finishing it, but i guess moving on to bigger and better things right?
