Technically, there is no such thing as "turbo lag".
It's been a misconception created where you suddenly make noticable power where none was available seconds before. The turbo is doing exactly what it has been designed to do. Build pressure at a designated level and making power.
No such thing as "lag". It's by design. And perception. From small motors.
The "lag" is that the motor never made any noticable power at the lower end before the turbo engaged (or keeping the turbo engaged).
All of a sudden, "whoosh" you make power when the turbo spools up.
Bullpucky.
You can avoid the feeling of "turbo lag" with torque.
Trucks make mega torque at low end (long stroke motors), and turbos only enhance this.
Agreed, long stroke motors will never be big RPM motors...but so what? They don't need to be.
Power = Power.
Don't care where or how they make it.
Unless you want to start discussing fuel efficiency...that's puts a different spin on the debate.
And that's where the millions of $$$ come into play...

actually.. lag is a true phenomenon.. but its only noticed in the transient condition
its a function of turbo inertia and the airflow compounding to provide the needed power in the turbine.
Its calcualted every day.. the The turbo engines torque curve is NOT constant. It depends on how fast the engine is accelerating and the rated torque curve you see on OEM's publications is STEADY STATE at each RPM.
I was talking to a PHD engineer at a very large turbo company who also agrees with my statements above..

Frankly, it's practically (or completely) impossible for a turbo motor to have a constant torque curve.
But that's not the design intent of the system.
Now don't go digressing into a SC vs TC debate...

And I am not always right. This discussion is about an OPINION of what is more driveable.
I can make my point in two sentences:
i simply think a car is more streetable a flat torque curve that STARTS with a high number and progresses evenly as opposed than a car that is a dog down low and completely takes you off gaurd like someone hit a 300 shot at 5000 rpm. I would rather deal with too much power that is predictable than too little that isnt.
Doesnt really matter what the setup is. I wouldnt have any fun in that Nelson GTO at all beyond the first 3 or 4 times driving it. so long as the turbos can provide for the bore x stroke at a constant velocity breathing more then the regular vacuum can produce the turbo is taking advantage. if the input of the turbo/s is at maximum potential then its displacing its highest HO. basically the lag can be said like a torque converter, if the spool is wound up enough to keep the vacuum up to pressure, then the boost should be comparable to the greatest level of input
