Yep it can be done, I'm doing H/C and everything is still in my car but trust me it'd be 1000X easier out of the car.

The aluminum headed LT1s were rated at 270hp. So you should definately consider swapping on the FBod heads and cam. But for the cost of that, you could buy the whole FBody LT1. So scrap that idea. If your keeping the roadmaster id buy a head porting kit $40, a full gasket kit and NEW OIL PUMP, dont forget that, thatll run you about $150 between the pump and the gaskets. Then port the heads on your own and the intake. Keep the stocker cam if you cant afford a new one, but the LT4 hotcams could be had for cheap. If you dont do these things upfront you'll cause more headache and more expense down the road to pull the motor out again.

Does this setup require a different driveshaft? The one in my car right now is the 2-peice stock unit.

you will want to upgrade that piece of crap. Go with a one piece aluminum. It is a great upgrade

Price? Also, will it work with the V6 too? I'll upgrade before the swap if they both use the same length driveshaft. I am having problems with the 2-peice, the center support is what is causing my car to shake!

yea they are direct swaps between the v8 and v6 cars. I got mine for $110 shipped. Usually they go for around $100 to $150 on v8 forums and ebay.

Just as long as you're sure. . . I need to replace my driveshaft, that's whats wrong with it. The Carrier Bearing on the driveshaft somehow fell off. I don't know what happened, but now I have an excuse to buy a lightweight aluminum single peice unit. I plan on buying it within a week or two. That is only if I can't get ahold of a stock replacement for less than like $75. I figure I gotta splurge on myself once in a while! How much HP do you think that will free up to the rear wheels? Will it make a noticeable difference?

I did the swap from the 2piece to 1piece alum and knocked off about .2 on my 1/4. When you take that 2piece off, you will see how heavy it is. The alum is so light that there will be more power to the ground. You having a 3.4 right now probably won't see a .2 drop in ET but it will feel like it climbs the rpms quicker.

Theoreticly youd free up some HP from less rotating inertia. But... its probably nothing you'll feel. However your car will be that much lighter, rev slightly faster and have slightly more HP. Not to mention you'll fix your problem.

                    Do it.

I think I will do it. I'm looking on EBay right now to get an idea, I'm gonna start looking around here to see if anyone knows where I can pick one up tomorrow. I need it fast, because the sh**ty split driveshaft is eating away at the bottom of my car. Thanks a lot, and if there are any stores where I can pick one of these bad boys up for about $100 at, let me know! I want to get this done so I can start racing again lol j/k I think I'll take it to the track, instead of dying, thank you!

Your going to need it anyways for the LT1 swap. So consider it part of that expense. And hey your that much closer to freeing yourself from the shackles of V6-hood

I'm aiming for a decent, reliable automobile for right now, so I need a driveshaft that won't go out on me like this one did. Damn GM for using such a flawed design! I think they should have used the single-peice Aluminum shaft in the original design.

They did the 2piece to help reduce vibrations while cruising. It isn't a flawed design, it was engineered and accomplished what they were trying to do.

Oh. . . I feel stupid again. Does the 1 peice vibrate much worse than the 2 peice? I went to autozone to ask about the part, and the guy accused me of lying about a 2-peice driveshaft. I had to take him out to the parking lot and show it to him. Pretty funny, the look on his face. lol

The one piece has a little more vibrations at high speeds compared to the 2 piece. Hardly noticable though and not big enough to not get the aluminum driveshaft.

You need to stop worrying about it and just go get one! You won't regret it and it is a upgrade that will be needed once that lt1 is in there.
