  • V6 SuperCharger and Ram Air Questions

Just had a few questions on forced induction system since i dont know much about it.

Would there be a big diff in HP gains between a Turbo and Super for a 3.8L V6?

I was considering getting a Supercharger off GTP or something like that, that has the 3.8 L Series 2 engine and i was wondering what id need like the injectors, fuel rail, the correct pulley for the crank, the throttle body programming, and anything else?

How much does the programming usually cost?

Will this fit under the hood with a ram air setup without having to cut into the hood?

I haven't yet got the box or anything for the ram air and i was wondering if i should just go OEM or is there some after market out there that offers better performance?

The bottom nostrils arnt functional with the OEM kit are they? And if not can they be made functional and would this be to any benefit if the other two already are?

Thanks for any advice or opinions on any of the questions!

www.camarov6.com do a search in their forced induction section, im acctually just about to install a supercharger on my firebird. You have a couple options as far as brands go but the gtp one will not work without serious modification to ur car. like i said just search camarov6 and you will find answers to alllll your problems

The supercharger off of a grandprix, impala will not fit on our cars without having to notch out the firewall and some pretty extensive modification. I thought about this same mod, but then found out the modification to be really extensive, especially when you think about the fact that pace fabrications makes a turbo kit for our cars that will put out more hp more efficiently than a supercharger. Check out www.firebirdv6.com and read some of the stickies on their board. Really good place to learn about mods that can be done to the 3800. Check out Pace if your really interested in FI.

Yup, the gtp SC wont work. Some things to consider before going F/I: basic mods are a must. Get exhaust, LSD, gears, intake...all of those things. Also, make sure you read the info on the V6 website--all of it.

Oh, turbos put out more power than SC's...i think.

for one Turbos are the way to go on these motors... When the turbo set up goes on it will change your exhaust some anyway.. The rear end gears will not needing changed, untill further notice, most of the cars come with 3.23 or 3.42 which are good gears for a turbo, The only thing you will have to think about latter on is a trany build up ( depending on your HP range).. That you will have to do about 5000 to 15000 miles down the road, on the autos, do to the extra HP AND TQ.. And at that time you should do a torque converter, ( I HIGHLY RECUMEND A CUSTOM BUILT ONE) If you have any other ?? let me now..

first off, before any FI is considered, what mods do you have done to your car right now? Also what goals do you have for your car? Also what kind of budget are you looking at?
