Cleaning wheels

ive got a 98 camaro with the 5 spoke wheels. Any one with them knows there not like aftermarket alunumum rims. What do you guys use to clean/polish them. I used mothers uluminum mag wheel polish. It cleaned them up but it said do not use if black resedue does not show up an none did.

there was no black residue because those wheels are clear coated just like 99% of factory wheels. if you want them to look good, treat it just as a painted part of your car, maybe compound it by hand and then throw some wax over them.

there was a write up on LS1tech a while ago where a guy took his "polished" WS6 wheels, and stripped the clear coat from them and then polished them. it looks a lot better, but then you have to deal with having bare aluminum rims which means they spot up and haze when they get wet and dull quickly, basically it just makes for a lot of upkeep.

i wet sanded and polished a set of weld pro-stars last weekend, took me about 3 hours and a 12 pack but damn did they look good

Silver painted wheels are never going to look like polished aluminum unless you strip the paint and polish them. Eastwood sells kits to strip and polish your painted wheels. It cost about $200 for the full kit if I remember right and you'll need time to do it. It'd be cheaper/faster to find 5 spoke chrome stockers to replace your silver wheels. You can find them for $200-300 for a set without tires.

I have had really good results with Turtle Wax's Chrome Polish on my stock snowflake rims and my chrome Z06's. The polish cleaned them up real well.

it's slightly abrasive so it polishes the scratches out

Yeah, using the chrome polish really cleans them up from my past experiences. Used them on my snowflakes and my friends 5-spokes.
