Dish soap ftw. Anything with a certain pH value I thought was suppose to take wax off.

I agree with the dish soap.
I also agree about the beading of the water. Freshly paint a car and wash it.....it will bead the water. And theres absolutly no wax on it yet. Its just because the finish (clear) is so new.sigpic

I know that before you paint a car, most paint shops will wipe the whole car down with some stuff called acryli-clean, it will not strip paint but removes, all grease, oils, and dirt from a surface before painting. You can buy it from any local paint shop. The stuff is great, road tar, ruber, bugs, anything like that, will come off easily. Once your done wiping, just wash off the car and you should be good. Well good luck.sigpic

Paint needs a course surface to stick to, this is why they sand the surface with sand paper which would take off the wax, and depending how far they sand down. Like your said prior to it being painted the surface is usually wiped down with wax and grease remover. Then a tack rag is used to rid the surface of any dust, particles on the surface. The the panel is ready for sealer, basecoat, and clear.
Hey Matt
Where do you get denature rubber alcohol?
Also do you have any experience in wet sanding/rubbing cars? (freshly painted, elimnate facotry orange peel etc)

Wow, I've got a lot to learn I guess, I've never stripped it because I thought it just naturally wore off and that's why I needed to re-wax it. Oopsy.
+1 for a great thread. Anybody wanna sticky this?
