Tires Oxidized in Storage HELP!!!

Guys,

Ok I didn't catch my tires in time to prevent oxidization of the side walls. Is there any cure for this other than replacing the tires? I need to set up an appointment with Matt anyway but how could I get those oxidization off?

doesn't a 2004 gto have alum wheels? alum doesn't oxidize.

Guys.. MANY materials oxidize.

Aluminum, rubber, plastics, iron, steel, copper, etc... its just the oxide layer/material is much different on all of them.

Tires tend to do that when left dirctly on the concrete for a period time it leaves like a whitish looking film on them.Glad you sad that cause I moved some tires the other day and forgot to put them on a pallet

Hey guys,

Yeah they turned brown on me. Sorry for the incorrect terminology. Some guy had told me that's what it was and since I don't know to much about tire chemistry. I took him for his word. But yeah, I mean of course the brownish cast goes away with tire shine but there should be something to fit it permanently without having to use tireshine. Right?

well i think using Westley's Bleech White whitewall tire cleaner and a stiff bristle brush works good, just be extra careful not to spray that shit on the rims, once is okay but don't do it again it really messed with the alum. wheels on my 90 bird, they started to oxidize and shit

what kind of tire shine do you use? I have seen tires that after awhile go brown from the tire shine that was used on them.

I was gonna say the same thing. Certain tire shines cause tires to turn brown very quickly. So far I have had good luck with the Armor All gel stuff. It keeps the tires shiny and doesn't turn them brown. The Meguiars gel I previously used caused the tires to turn brown after a week or two if you didn't clean them and reapply the gel.
