Question About Buffing Wheels.

Im starting to play around with some extra parts I have and trying to polish them so they look like chome. Like the ac condenser and some lines. I use a drill with a 4inch cotton buff wheel. I learned that if you sand the metal flat with 320 sand paper and then some 400 it helps alot. I want to polish some parts in my engine. But it doesnt seem like I am useing the right polish or buffs mine are to soft to get the full shine out. What have any of you found works best for this. I have been on eastwood.com but dont know what buffs I should use.

220, 400, 1000 grit followed by mothers polish shines the stuff up awesome

We used WENOL on the 67 prostreet nova... that stuff is great at cleaning up old oxidation, etc.

I'm with travis, wetsand the stuff with some 500-1000 wetsand paper then polish away. that's what i did with my dirt bike swing-arm. it looks like it's chromed. i think i used never-dull and flitz, but once you wetsand it down really good, pretty much any metal polish works!

With WENOL you don't have to do any sanding.I made stainless stell look like chrome ,plus you use just a dab & just buff ...

You don't even need to do that. If you go to an AutoZone, or something like that, pick up some Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish, and also some Mothers Billet Polish. Take a cotton cloth and in a staight lines (not a circular motion) apply the Aluminum polish. Once a black residue appears wipe it off with a clean towel. After you get that done, apply the billet polish (follow the same procedures). It is best to wipe them clean when the products are still wet. Remember a little bit goes a long way.

I've used Mothers products ,& I still stand by WENOL any day !! What it comes down to is ... what works for you .Neither products are that expensive .A small tube of WENOL is only $6.00 (mail-order only )..

Also you could use some specialized buffing compound. Check out what jewelry shops use.

I used Mother's chrome polish on my wheels to clean them and it made them shiney and clean as hell!!!

Here is a little tip.
For the a/c lines and all of the smaller items use a Dremel and some Mother's Metal Polish. The paste like polish. The Dremel turns much faster than a drill so it makes the job much easier.
