  • [Detail] Massive Paint Correction on 2006 DTS

A couple weeks ago, one of my jobs was a 2006 Cadillac DTS, black. This was the Cadillac of swirls. The customer was looking for correction and shine, but within a budget and timeframe. Given the condition of the paint (horrendous), I was a little unsure of how much I'd be able to do with one day of work, but I pushed ahead anyway.

Realistically, I was looking for something like 70% correction. I knew there were some heavy scratches that were just going to stay and given 8 hours for a total interior and exterior detail was pushing it.

    Product List:
    Interior
    -Megs D101 10:1
    -Poorboy's Natural Look

    Exterior
    -Optimum Car Wash
    -Speedy Prep towel
    -ONR clay lube solution
    -Optimum MF cutting discs
    -Menz FG400
    -M101
    -AMMO Skin
    -Megs D120
    -Ultima Tire and Trim Guard+

Here's what I was working with:

Seven years of horrible swirls. Lucky me. First thought was to reach for my go-to one-stepper: FG400. After a few passes on my test panel, the swirls could be heard laughing at my futile attempts at correction. Almost no progress. Enter Megs M101:

Now that's what I'm talking about. That's one-step with one of the most aggressive compounds out there on an aggressive MF pad. Now, in an ideal world, I'd like to follow this up with something like OHP or even SF4500 to really clarify and jewel it down, but this isn't an ideal world. People have budgets and time constraints, which is perfectly fine. I was more than comfortable sending this out the door with what I would estimate at 90% correction and a good to very good level of finish.

All that was really left was to slather on a coat of AMMO Skin and button up the details.

    A few final shots:

Thanks for looking. Let me know if you have any questions.

I bet that's the best the car looked since they bought it.

The steering wheel has about an 1/8" worth of oils and dirt buildup Carpet was so trashed that it went in the trash. I need to find a good cleaner to cut the grim!

Try Meg's D101 or D103. You can dilute it to your needs. 1:10 is my go-to for light to moderate interior soil. 1:4 would be about the max I'd go on interior.
